My Get-Pushed-77 partner, April Milani, challenged me to photograph noir. To me, noir makes me think of 1940s crime dramas and mysteries like Double Indemnity and others of the genre, with (dictionary definition here) "bleak and sleazy settings." Nothing is bleaker and sleazier looking (well, some things are, but not a lot), that the stairwell in our building. I asked two colleagues (one was Jim, actually) to be in the scene I had in mind, promising them both they would not be recognizable. I'll try other noir shots over the week -- it's interesting learning what it means.
Thanks all for your response to my alien insect reading a map -- I'm glad everyone could enjoy the humor in it. And especially for the wonderful comments and fav's on my b&w lilies!
Another snow shot from this week in extras, featuring dog in snow: http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2014-01-04
@danielwsc Thanks -- I'll try to do that in my next one. There's such a range of what I see called 'noir' as I've browsed the internet. I left my book about b&w on the island, not helpful!
Noir and mystic, I really like this one. I say you really have done well in your challenge for trying something different, I´m fascinated by the interaction between the darkness and light. This is giving me so much inspiration, I think I have to try to accomplish something similar too.
Great experiment. I'd say you succeeded admirably. You not only tell a story with what we are witnessing but make it look like a classic p.o.v. shot from an as yet unidentified voyeur.
This is fab and fits the challenge really well. I've been given exactly the same push only I need to be in the photo - definitely proving a challenge! I do like the style though.
What a great shot, Taffy. I especially like the disapproving glance of the person on the lower part of the stairs... better seen when viewing large on black.
Very effective...looks spooky and I would not want to be working late and have the elevator quit and have to take the stairs. Well done! You are soooo creative. Love it
@eyesmile Thanks Gena! It's not as bad as I made it look -- but we all try to be out of the building within 20 minutes or so of the last class, so conceptually, this is what it feels like. I'm glad that what comes through.
@northy Thanks northy! Yours may have been some of the earliest ones I started viewing. Your setups are usually beyond things I'd have imagined but are inspiring.
