The onion has been such a fun addition to my album as it has led to several very funny comments. My favorite - maybe of all time - was from @kathiecb who wrote: “I don't think an onion has ever received this much attention - EVER!” I had a great laugh and when I read her comment to Jim, he laughed out loud as well. So this post is dedicated to Kathie!
This is the same image as the 'original' but processed using solarization filters in Color Efex Nik Suite.
I love this against the black as it make the texture of the onion look like silk and really shows detail. I do prefer the white background though as I think it had more impact!
Only chef's have given such honor to the onion. Of course they would be sad to see it in such a sorry state. LOL I just have to wonder if it has gotten very fragrant at this point.
The most beautiful onion I have ever laid eyes one!! Great edit and I live the contrast between the vivid colors of the onion and the black background. I will fav you onion! ;-)
The boy passed by as I was looking at your shot...You'll LOVE this!
Boy: What *is* that?
JT: an onion.
Boy: an onion? What's that green stuff?
JT: New shoots...it's starting to grow
Boy: That's disgusting! (and he stomped off)
Priceless! I've enjoyed the series! Needless to say, the boy has not yet developed an appreciation for high-brow onion art. I'll work on that! ;)
I love what you have done with the onion. I can't even believe I have used those words. At least not in a cooking sense :). But you have made it look spectacular.
@joansmor Haha!! It would be terribly fragrant, I suspect, but it sadly (? not so much) is no longer with us in reality, though continues to be here in spirit given the number of images I now have from all the different processing "fun".
@sc In Color Efex, a post processing plug-in that I used with Aperture and now with Lightroom, there is a filter called 'solarization.' In that filter you can start with one of 5 different options and then use sliders to customize it to the look you want. It's quite cool as it takes you through the light of the sun across the day, from quite dark -- to very high key. This is kind of mid-range with a few other adjustments.
Onion art! :) I really like the way the black background isolates your subject. The processing is wonderful. Too bad your onion is in decline... I have enjoyed these shots.
