No need to comment...documentation time.
1. Huge storms over the weekend
2. Revealed that water can get into our home via under the patio doors and the large living room window
3. Caused some warping of new floor and stain not to 'take' in a few spots -- some quite long
4. Main floor must be redone and master bedroom
5. Guess who can't move in, but who has to move out of Skybridge on Thursday?
6. Had to postpone all house deliveries of furniture and content for a few weeks or so, make arrangement for storage of those items that were supposed to go from our temporary to regular condo.
7. Will sleep at house on air mattress Thurs through Sat night so they will have all electricity and plumbing set up.
8. Return to Beaver Island until further notice
9. Monday means start of floor renovation.
Sigh...
The good things:
A. We do like how it is turning out.
B. It's hard to be sad 'having' to return to Beaver Island, but it does mean returning back to Chicago earlier than planned for the move-in.
C. Maybe by the time we move in, the rest of the furniture will have arrived.
D. We really like the new fan for the family room!
Glad you are happy with how it is turning out. I getting the bugs worked out now is good too. Wishing you a great week and move in when you return from the island.
If I could hold the frustration for you I would. So just imagine me telling everyone "This is unacceptable." After last month, I'd like to make it my mission to make this kind of stuff go away for folks. The funeral stuff alone last month taught me that everything relies on friends and real support so if this Atlantan can gelp in any way, let me know. :)
OMG, it's just one thing after another. At least this happened before you moved in, as it would be annoying trying to move furniture etc later. Now it will be perfect for the big move. Good luck.
@darylo You gave me my first laugh of the day! Thank you! I sort of liked 'gelp'. Back top packing...I've had my joyous 20 minute break! And this is even having packers AND mostly rental furniture here! Amazing...I'm seeing more and more that I have too many things...our Goodwill corner is growing fast tonight.
I'm glad you like your fan. I like it too, especially how it moves. :) A lovely shot. OMG... what a total pain! I guess it is better to find out now that you have water leaks, rather than after you get the furniture in - but it sounds difficult and somewhat demoralizing. Hang in there.
@jgpittenger We've taken a deep breath, put everything in storage instead of only part of it and our insurance people are willing to pay the extra storage since we aren't asking them for an extra month's rent. So Sunday, we leave for the island to stay for a month -- we have so much work to do to get ready for the semester and can't do it under these circumstances. We'll come back in a month when everything including the lower unit is done and all our furniture is in. Whew...it's been insane, but now it feels just frustrating re the time it's taken. We had to move out tomorrow so the trip down was not a waste, but staying here for the next week or so would be. I'm hiding out in my study which still has rental furniture and thinking good thoughts!
Verrrry cool motion blur capture!
Thinks : wonder if it's possible to attach battery-op, mini strings of leds to those fan blades... 3:-)
Sorry to hear you're having yet more problems, it must be very stressful and frustrating, especially when you're almost there.
Love the ceiling fan. What bad luck about the leaks. At least Beaver Island will be a lovely refuge and let's hope the contractors get it right this time
@lesip Eek!! Cursed is one thing I hadn't considered....hopefully not. I'm now trying to think about it as blessed since none of our things were damaged. I can't imaging our insurance company wanting to deal with a new claim!!
nice composition and minimalism
But sorry about the homeowners' blues! :-(
With homes, it's always something! :-\
but I do like the fan
That was disappointing news for sure, but it will come together. :)
Enjoy Beaver island, I enjoy your photos from there.

Sorry to hear you can't move back yet - Beaver Island sounds like a great place to go back to though! :)
