From Andie's - @ukandie1 - and my photowalk along the Chicago River riverwalk last night. Processed using Topaz Textures and Lightroom. Handheld and clearly would have benefitted from tripod and long exposure.
Thanks for your lovely comments on the b&w of the opera chairs yesterday!
I am so looking forward to seeing Chicago at night and hopefully being able to get some nightscape shots. You always manage to get such great pov' s . Lovely processing here - love the soft colourful reflections! Fav!
@skstein One thing we are lucky about is that we are a short train or bus ride away from the river, so it makes it possible to do photowalks after work. And I always try to tie in photowalks when I'm traveling for work. 365 has made that so much more fun as I have been able to meet others in their home cities (like my recent work trip to St Louis).
@pamknowler You are going to have almost daily opportunities for night photography! By the end of the week, you should have skylines, lake shots, light trails, light bursts, etc. And given where you are staying, you are in the midst of some pretty amazing skyscrapers. It will be like being on a safari when you think to yourself, "Do I really need another elephant photo?" but of course, the answer is -- yes! Tripod is critical as is a remote shutter release (or knowing how to do the 2 second delay).
I'm amazed that you can hand hold a shot like this. I was just feeling sad that I'm not coming to the Chicago meet up. You've really inspired me with your city shots
This is a gorgeous shot Taffy, which somehow feels slightly UnTaffy'like. I think it's the processing that maybe a bit of a departure. Softer, less sharp focus, more grainy feel which to me makes it somehow look warmer which is not how you are describing the night temperatures. (Or maybe it's just the colours which convey warmth.) Fav.
@365projectorgsebgritt Definitely not my preferred processing but without the tripod, I felt it was not sharp enough to post. I've been learning to use textures (Topaz Textures Effects) which is a plug-in and had just bought a new set of 'nature' ones to use. That's what created the look of mist/grain/fog here. I find if I don't try new things -- composition or processing or challenges, I get bored. So currently, am learning textures and PS. Thanks for noticing!
@pamknowler It was an offer from Daily Textures -- they sell textures (Jane introduced me to them) to download. A little pricey but they had a sale price plus a % off so it wasn't bad. Just sent you an email about it.
@kelly2 It's a fantastic city with so much to offer, but a city of contrasts and inequality. With a long history of corruption at the city, county, and state levels. I love it here, but it frustrates me as a citizen. An interesting book to read is The Third Coast. It shows insights into the city and how it came to be the way it is now. It's still the crossroads of the world, known for it's stunning architecture, high quality museums, relatively low-cost and accessible public transportation that makes it easy to navigate, wonderful restaurants, theater, shopping, the lakefront, museum campus, river...it's quite fabulous. But not for all...
The texture works great on this. Funnily I posted a shot from exactly the same place on Instagram yesterday, but in high contrast b&w, You can get away with shots being not quite as sharp there as long as they are viewed on a small phone screen.
P.S. Do you guys take all these photo op trips for pleasure/vacation, or does your work take you to these places?
pretty!
for detail, balance and the lights. Great editing
I like the painterly texture.
