The Sunning Duo by taffy

The Sunning Duo

The two garden snakes were curled up so comfortably in a sunny spot below our deck. When I started snapping, they both sort of looked up as if to say, "we'll leave you alone but you should leave us alone too." I learned from someone on 365 that blue eyes means the snake is about to moult, or shed its skin.
Great find and capture they seem to be loving the sunny spot -- wish it was sunny here too !!

Closer than I would be!

Beauties resting side by side!

We had them in our yard all the time when we lived in IL. Those are pretty good sized one.

They have lovely colouring. Indeed their eyes appear blue when they are about moult.

@salza Thanks! And I fixed the spelling -- loved your gentle way of letting me know the right way to spell moult!

or have babies.................... you could have tons of snakes around you soon!!! LOL

@taffy I didn't even register that there was any issue regarding spelling! I have heard that the eyes change colour due to the fact that the skin releases from around the eyes thus making them appear blue.

@salza It's the teacher in me -- I noticed how you spelled it and couldn't leave the site without fixing. Or maybe it's the Type A in me! I did appreciate it, though.

Oh no I couldn't have these in my yard!! I am such a wuss!! LOL!! Mind you I think Finlay would have something to say about these visitors!!

focal length - 78mm...... that's a bit close to a snake for me! Interesting about the blue eyes and moulting.

Snakes aren't my thing but great, brave shot :).
July 16th, 2016
They are beauties soaking up the sun :)
July 16th, 2016
Cool shot! I didn't know that about the blue eyes.
July 16th, 2016
I presume garden snakes are harmless but I still wouldn't like to be near any snake let alone have them in your garden!
July 16th, 2016
Great shot but not so sure I would fancy having them in my garden. I think they would be coaxed away somewhere in the bushland.
July 17th, 2016
Yikes! I'd be afraid to get too close. Excellent shot, Taffy.
July 17th, 2016
Oh Taffy dear--Nooooooooo!!!
July 17th, 2016
I think you are very brave! The only time I've ever come across a snake that was moulting was on a hike with my husband. It was quite large and blocking the trail. I stayed WAY back and Jeff gently prodded it was a really long stick so that it would leave the trail. It was very angry!! Snakes are definitely not my thing!

Impressive find. Interesting creatures to have in the bottom of the garden.

Good grief Charlie Brown, I assume these aren't venomous?? I'm not scared of any snake I can see, but certainly wouldn't encourge the wretched things.

I am not sure I can trust their words.
July 17th, 2016
I wouldn't trust going close to them. Beautiful capture of the two.
July 17th, 2016
Not sure I'd like them under my deck!
July 17th, 2016
Great find and interesting info about the one's blue eye.
July 17th, 2016
Awesome shot

@777margo Egad! It's one thing to have them outside, but in my ceiling would be a bit disturbing! Good luck with that!
July 17th, 2016
Cozy as snakes can look!
July 18th, 2016
I've never noticed their eyes before, but the ones I've seen usually move into hiding before I could get a close look.
July 18th, 2016
Yikes...........I hate snakes!
Great capture of the dual though!
July 18th, 2016

July 18th, 2016
What a find! Very interesting about the eyes!
July 18th, 2016
Not sure I would get a photo, would head the other direction. Great shot. I did not know that about snakes that blue eyes mean they are ready to shed their skin.

I've been away from 365 for so long - a combination of no real camera, no time, and no internet. I thought I needed a week at BI to catch up my photo journaling but then -- I saw this -- and I thought, maybe not. Quite a dramatic capture, though!
