So craving color today that I ended up posting in my alternate album earlier today -- https://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2017-02-15 -- and then almost totally forgot to post in my main one for FlashofRed2017. This is a scene of some iconic buildings along Wacker Drive which parallels the river. The statue is of explorer DuSable. He's sort of looking across to Lincoln and Everyman posted earlier this week.
Thanks for your comments and favs on my color shot - always appreciated!
Great scene and composition! I know what you mean about b&w - I'm enjoying doing a shot a day but am finding I also put a colour photo in my other album each day too! We're creatures of habit aren't we!
Great image love the central placement of the bust and the towering sky scrapers in the back ground. I would have been tempted to cut that tree down on the left but you would probably get into trouble for that! Fav
Had to go and Google DuSable - what an interesting chap! Smiled at your title. Very handy to live somewhere so extremely photogenic when you have a pic a day to come up with!!
This is stunning Taffy!! The architecture of Chicago just calls for B&W!! I know what you mean about longing for colour though - I am struggling with my B&W images every day now.
Wacker Drive? Our hotel is 85 E Wacker Drive so I am assuming we will be not far from this spot? How exciting!! Fav!!
Ok, well, here's my 2 cents worth- yes, placing DuSable smack in the middle made sense for the overall view, but I think that's what makes it boring to you. I have never been to Chicago (except for an overnight stay at a hotel when a flight was cancelled) but I'm assuming you have some room to maneuver here and if you still wanted an overall view such as this moving around so that the statue is off to the side or coming in closer so that he is the foreground while the buildings are still in the background may have made it a little less stagnant. But for me this would be the shot that I "get out of my system" and then start looking for the less seen shot- the more creative one using some sort of detail as the subject and not the overall view. I know you've done pictures like that before too, so maybe you didn't want to do another (and this is really just my opinion!). But I'm wondering what kind of shot you might get by coming in really close to DuSable as if you were doing a portrait shot with all the windows as a backdrop. The rungs of the railing are a nice shape too- I wonder if there's a shot there. You are such a great photographer, I really feel silly trying to give you ideas or inspiration- you really don't need it from me! But I sensed such a strong feeling of frustration, I thought I'd just ramble a bit. Take it for what it's worth and keep at it- you're doing better than you think!
DuSable in the middle was an interesting choice, but works since the lighter area of the curve of the road and the uneven skyline mitigate him. Very good light.
