Taken yesterday morning as we were getting ready to leave. It hit me today -- on Beaver Island, sight of such a creature is a photo op and treasured. In Chicago, sight of such a creature is a sign of infestation, disaster, and need to call in exterminators!
We're back in the city with a full work week ahead. I've decided to use this week to transition from BI to Chicago by interspersing some of the photos from BI that I liked but never posted with ones from the city.
Thank you all for your visits and comments!
A great idea. And yes, a treasure here! So glad I was on to be one of the FIRST commenters! Love the texture mixed in with the smooth body of the insect.
What a perfect close up of a Cricket. Considered very lucky in some cultures (not sure why). I guess they are edible also, but don't think I want to try one.
You really made it look very beautiful, love that bright red tones. That is so true, everything is relative and depends on from which angle you look them. I'm happy to see more pics from the island
COOL capture! Cave crickets are fascinating and harmless critters that can jump really, really high.I love this image,,you have really brought out the beauty of the golden colorations.
@jodimuli Ah...that is one of my reasons for posting the pretty flowers -- your comment made me realize it was time for something beautiful instead of creepy-crawly!

Thanks Alan and Hope! I was surprised at how pretty it looked -- the shell was so golden looking and I hadn't expected that. The sunlight helped, of course!
Wouldn't want him in my house!
Great capture though.
