Another local wonder but it seemed more important to show what's INSIDE this landmark than the landmark itself. And it's not really historical, but it is totally amazingly wonderful and it has a long history in the city. Margie's Candies is an old fashioned, small ice cream parlor that has been around since 1921. They make all their candy and ice cream on their premises, and it looks pretty much the same as it did way back when. Patrons include the Beatles (who had performed a concert in Soldier Field) and Frank Sinatra. Relics of the visits are in a glass case in the middle of the ice cream parlor. It's at the intersection of Armitage, Milwaukee, and Western Avenues west of the downtown area -- near a stop on the blue line. Check out their website before visiting Chicago -- it's worth the effort to go there. We picked up our friends who had seen a play and took them their for dessert where I consumed, on my own, that entire sundae and all the hot fudge sauce that is being poured. Yes, I do feel a little nauseous, but it was worth it.
A more conventional historical landmark, taken at night, is in my main album: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-10-02
Sounds like a wonderful place with many stories to tell..if the walls could talk. But most importantly,I am drooling over this image!Wow!Yummy and wonderfully photographed, the slight blur if that chocolate sauce is fab!
Oh my goodness I need some ice cream - NOW!! That looks fabulous Taffy!! Love the history of the place - another one on my list when I visit Chicago!! Great shot!!
You went to have ice cream without me! Seriously, this photo is so enticing in how you have presented the chocolate being poured. Were you just super fast with your camera or did they pour multiple chocolate sundaes while you photographed :) ?
Believe it or not, the pattern over the top of the fudge pouring out caught my eye. Not sure if that's an illusion from reflections or if some sort of pattern formed. Either way, its way cool!
@bill_fe No tripod, Bill. I was sitting in a booth with a wide angle camera -- held the fudge where I wanted it and then had Jim take over and pour as I shot the photo(s). This is at the western avenue stop on the blue line if you all decide to go for ice cream during your visit this month.
@rellimdj The little spots were really weird. In this shot I had to do a little cloning as there was a bright spot from the florescent light and decided to clone in the weird red spots over the light splat.
