'Tis the Season by taffy

'Tis the Season

My get-pushed challenge partner this week, @jocasta, asked me to take a photo that represents the emotion of the week. It's only the start of the week, so this is more AN emotion of the week - the starting one. Walking home from school, I noticed this Halloween decoration that had graced the steps of one of the houses for the last month, looking so sweet, calm, and welcoming back then. Now it's tossed, not just aside, but in an alley in the trash bin. I took a few photos that I didn't like, so actually went back to try to frame it differently. I think this evokes a range of feelings and am curious what it signals to you. I think this season can be such a special one, but can't help but think of all those not as fortunate.
Also fits ONS6 b&w for today and I'm hoping I can keep up with the rest of the days' challenges!

The smile is ironic, isn't it?

Perfect! It reminds me of some of my co-workers before their coffee...
How ironic would it be if the building was a Starbucks?!?!?
This is definitely a fav for me!

Great b&w

To me this says "I'm up against a wall." Or "I'm beating my head against a brick wall?"

very cool

Lol! This is great! love the smile!

@jocasta. Just in case, here's one for my challenge. Hoping or a better one later in the week.

This is so interesting and that smile...I know the feeling of beating my head against a wall but not with the smile, smile I think makes this intriguing.

It looks as if it's a child playing hide and seek counting to a hundred. I thought it looked sad at first as it's been thrown out but when you look large and see the smile it changes the feeling for me. Great B&W!!

You're keeping very busy :-)
A lovely shot - somewhat sad too!

How sad to see it just discarded! Surely it could have been kept for next year or re fashioned for the festive season. A children's home could probably have made good use of it

A metaphor for many lives and a great capture

Poor guy! Everything must come to an end.

This certainly tells a story. The B&W processing does lend to the mood.

I've looked at this a few times during the day - and each time it's told me a different story. It's a great photo - I love the different textures of the wall, telegraph pole and bin. It reminds me mostly of children playing hide and seek and I can almost hear him/her counting. So for me it's a happy photo of childhood and fun. Hoping to have my first go at a collage tomorrow.

@jocasta Thanks so much for such a thoughtful response! I did like it because of the different responses I had. I move among the emotions, probably depending on my own mood. Leaving in a few hours to the airport, flying to the conference, so am glad I was able to see your response. Have fun with the collage! I'm supposed to have internet so will look in again tonite!

great shot with a great description/story. Also great processing to b&w

I find this quite sad and poignant, which means you've met your challenge admirably.
December 3rd, 2013
Sad! Funny that it is face down against the wall. Maybe a bit more of the trash bin would help for the context, but I like it.

it feels rather bleak... sad, given the season... but a reality for many i expect...

nicely done
