Sharyn @sewsharyn is my get pushed partner this week and gave me an intriguing challenge to create a low-key, long exposure, b&w image. The challenge starts tomorrow, but I thought I'd take a first try at it tonight using a sunset. The wind was up, the bugs were down, and the sunset was not brilliant in colors, but had some interesting textures. I used a 10-stop ND filter to darken it enough to allow a 30 second exposure, and used Silver Efex for the b&w conversion and contrast/shadings.
@sewsharyn Thanks for the challenge -- you've already inspired me to (a) get out my tripod, (b) put on my ND filter, and (c) go outside at night despite the mozzies (especially since it was breezy). This won't count for this week's challenge as it's too early but it has gotten me started thinking about it.
What a challenge! Good that you have a 10-stopper! (really something which I should get as well...what brand would you recommend?) You have succeeded magnificently...lovely lines and interesting cloud movement.
