Full Tummy

Spotted on the rocks as we waited for the ferry to pick up some freight we had shipped over (less expensive to send on the boat than take with us on the plane). I thought the big bulge suggests something is being digested while he sort of sleeps or zones out.
Reduced saturation since the green grass stood out more than the snake.
He's got his eye on you. Wonderful find.

Amazing picture.

Awesome!

The color of his eye suggests he may be about to shed his skin. That will cause lethargy too. The bulge amidships does look like the frog/rodent population is down by one.

Kathleen is right - he is about to shed - strange that he ate at this time must have been opportunistic as ours go off their food when they are about to shed

Great capture

Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.

Yikes, great capture, but so not staying to look too long - snakes make me run!

Amazing, that thickened part of the body says it all. It makes me shiver.

Oh, I am SO glad I did NOT see this snake -- or any other snake -- while I was there. But I have to admit -- this is a cool capture.

I hate snakes!! Are these ones venomous? But it's a darned good shot, despite the subject.
August 30th, 2014
Brave shot, I don't think I would have got that close.
August 30th, 2014
Oh my hope it doesn't need Tums to digest whatever it had eaten.

Glad to see there are some herpetologists on this site, or I would have thought you had photoshopped those cloudy blue eyes! Great capture of a multi-tasking snake digesting and shedding his skin all at the same time!

Wow, that is a big snake!

Holiday meal.

Mmmmm, something quite substantial in there. Nice find :)

---I prefer to avoid them...totally!

How cool to be able to get a picture of him.. I'm glad someone mentioned the glazed blue eyes as I was wondering about them!
August 30th, 2014
Yikes....it does blend in very well in that surrounding

:O !!!!
August 30th, 2014
Very well camouflaged !! and he does as if he has just had a huge meal !!

A great well seen and taken natural history shot just as it should be, the snake in it's natural environment.
August 30th, 2014
I think I see a look of contentment. That's a fairly large snake.
August 30th, 2014
Ouch!
August 31st, 2014
gosh, I'd love to know what's in there.

Wow!

What a great shot, Taffy. It did not even put its head up when you took your photo? I would have been out of there slowly, then fast.

really does look full of something

He looks huge in this image. I compare him to the grass and maybe he's not gigantic, but he looks it in the picture.

What a lot of wonderful things we learn on this site! Your capture with the full tummy is quite excellent! You must have a sizable snake population there that you should have encountered them more than once!

Am afraid of snakes but you capturedthis well. Did you freakout when you saw it? Haha!
