No need to comment...just a time marker image for today: diplomas (not really, just the covers -- diplomas aren't mailed until grades are officially turned in next week), decorated mortarboards worn by graduates, and faculty in full regalia -- our 'hoods' (the velvet and silk scarves that we wear hanging down the back of our robes) making for a colorful scene on the stage.
I discovered last year that I could carry my camera with me, stop and take photos during the procession and from the stage, and no one stopped me (there's actually an official photographer there). I posted them last year on Flickr and everyone loved having access to them, even the administrators. When I walked in with my camera for the line-up, my colleagues started joking in different poses. Made it more fun for me. So I'm planning to do the same thing this year.
@maggiemae Heehee! I started to add up the number of graduations I've gone to over the years, sometimes twice a year...35 years X 1 per year, plus about 10 or so others as some institutions I've been at have 2 ceremonies each year...I do love getting dressed up -- like being at Hogwarts or something! My hood is orange and blue for U of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. Jim's is red and white (Washington State) so our closet looks colorful this time of year!
I love the colourful scene! I bet you and Jim look great in your robes! That would be a lovely portrait! Such an emotional scene for those youngsters and especially their parents! I agree I expect your photos are better than the official photographer!
Sad to say the only time I got to wear my hood was when I first received it. But I'm still as proud of it as I could be. Love your collage. My graduation was MUCH smaller!!
