Hi Lesley - me again with this churner/hand mixer thing. I wonder how your mother in law had this - do you know if she made buttermilk or stuff like that by hand? It’s a fascinating find amongst her possessions.
Her one looks as if it’s been well-used, judging by the texture at the bottom of the churner.
I think it’s a brilliant idea for a hand mixer. Rub the long stick bit between your hands to and fro, insert the bottom rosette thingy in the bowl and churn away.
There is one photo on that website that is an exact version of the one in your photo. (The 3rd one in the line-up of photos.)
Thanks for posting this, one learns something every day!
Thank you for this. I’ve just shown my husband and asked him if his mother made her own buttermilk and he said yes. I then remembered that she once offered some to me when I was dating her son. I thought it was horrible!
She was born in Berlin in the 1920s to Prussian farmer parents, so would have been used to such things.
Thank you so much for your investigative skills. I didn’t even know what to put in a search engine, and I got no response on here from my original post. I’m so grateful to you. Thank you again.
