Project 52: Week 15 - Croq and Mob Artist

Croq comes from 'croquer' - to sketch and 'Mob' is an abbreviation of Mobylette - a make of classic French moped: together they form the name of a Breton art initiative. Local artists descend on a town or village by Mobylette and sketch the place and/or its inhabitants - they mostly leave the images behind to be displayed in local shops, bars, restaurants, etc. This gentleman was one of a number of participants who were sketching in Paimpont village this lunchtime - he was sketching Paimpont Abbey. You can see another view in my Ocoloy Album post for today: http://365project.org/vignouse/ocoloy/2016-04-09

Incredible portrait shot...so much great detail, great composition
April 11th, 2016
Great portrait. I especially like the light on his face. Too often photographers increase the contrast/grittyness and make these rough looking people even rougher. This is an honest shot, great work!
April 11th, 2016
Love this - wonderful detail and his eyes are amazing.
April 11th, 2016

A wonderful portrait, such textures! FAV
April 11th, 2016
This is a great shot and nicely handled. Has just enough texture to it but not too much grit or sharpening going on. You've handled the glasses really well too, which can frequently be a problem.

Wonderful character captured

April 11th, 2016
I'm flabbergasted over the quality of this - the clarity making it resembling a charcoal drawing.

A wonderful image, right up my street. Fav.

Searching, almost pleading eyes. What have you done in post, I wonder? I remember you previously referring to "structured" processing or some such... injecting extra contrast in the mid tones, perhaps? It's almost hyper-detailed. Therapy, I suppose, for some who's who's been sentenced to a year's hard SOOC and gets day release for good behavior. ;-)

@jasperc Nice observation about the eyes, he was struggling to get the receding perspective right. The treatment is mainly micro-contrast adjustment... and quite a lot of work to make the village shop in the background less obtrusive. What may surprise you is that this was taken from almost the same position as my Ocoloy 100 shot so this is a (very) heavy crop from a 16 Mb sensor! I did have some closer shots but this is the only one where he has his pipe in his mouth and I wanted that.
April 11th, 2016
@vignouse it was worth the effort and shows what a fine sensor your x100 has too.
April 11th, 2016
@jasperc It's exactly the same as yours!
April 11th, 2016
Nicely done. Will you send a copy back to be displayed?
