Does anyone NOT photoshop?

January 17th, 2012
Hi all, i'd be interested in following people who don't heavily edit pictures, as I love the really odd pictures people come across and just click away at. Im a sort of beginner myself so havent mastered photoshop as of yet, but in time and with a lot of patience im a willing subject, but for now, id like to see other peoples photos and pick tips up from them.
Thanks all, and hope to 'follow' you soon x
January 17th, 2012
All my photos are SOOC except two one which i cropped and one i turned black and white :)
January 17th, 2012
@Tammeray ty, ill follow you x
January 17th, 2012
I add contrast to mine or go b&w but other than that I have no idea how to use photoshop haha
January 17th, 2012
Follow returned :) Hoping more people reply as I prefer SOOC shots would like to follow some more .
January 17th, 2012
@gaia marvellous, i LOVE the sea shell picture. followed.
January 17th, 2012
I don't have photoshop. I'm more of a people and places person, and my dogs.... I use Picasa, to change lightness sometimes, or to go black and white. I try to frame what I want, rather than crop. I'm having a go at different subjects, but think most pics will just be about my year
January 17th, 2012
I don't have photoshop! I play around with an old version of digital image suite and then, believe it or not, I can do some things in PowerPoint.
January 17th, 2012
Jen
I don't use Photoshop. I tried. It was too complicated for me. lol! I tweak a little here and there in Paint Shop (with contrast, white balance, vignettes, etc.) but that's about it, and I uploaded a pic this week that was SOOC.
January 17th, 2012
@onie @msk1p2 @jenimac ty all, will follow x
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton @tammeray Liking your pics.Following you
@gaia Following, not only because I like your pics, but I also have a Nikon D40!!
January 17th, 2012
I don't use photoshop, it changes photographs into images.

I mess around with contrast and saturation and cropping, and every now and then, I use a frame or a wash from pixlr.
January 17th, 2012
I dont have photoshop - never mind use it in my photos, nearly all of my photos are sooc, i some times crop but not much else - what you see if what you get - hope you like them : - )
January 17th, 2012
What does SOOC mean pls peeps? I guess I should learn all the terminology x
January 17th, 2012
Jen
Straight out of the camera.
January 17th, 2012
no photoshop here...the occasional crop in lightroom but that's it for editing from me...not least because i don't have time!
and I'm trying to get better at taking pictures SOOC

I've just learned what SOOC means thanks to this thread!
January 17th, 2012
I don't use photoshop. I use GIMP. All I do with my images is the occasional increase in contrast, or sharpen. I like keeping it natural.
January 17th, 2012
Some of my shots are sooc and some are processed.. It all depends how I feel and how much time I have.. But I will always state when my shots are either so others know what is and what is not edited.
January 17th, 2012
I do very minimal adjustments. I think a good photograph should stand on its own. That is not to say I don't ever play around in PS, and I enjoy some of the work I've seen, but if it is heavily photoshopped,it becomes a whole other art form.
January 17th, 2012
@lisjam1 indeed it does. I wish I was good at it, may invest in a photoshop for dummies book, else its just sitting unused and unloved on the laptop.
@carolbloomfield Ahhhh thats whats SOOC is. TY Ill use that term now, and try to look like I fit in haha!
January 17th, 2012
Would you believe I don't use it either????
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton I don't own photoshop, so I can't. I do do some stuff with the programme that came with the computer and my christmas present was a programme called Aperture (Apple) , it's minimal adjustments and a few other things but nothing like photoshop.
January 17th, 2012
i don't photoshop, i picnik :)
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton don't buy the dummy book - i bought it and i found it boring,
The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) - Scott Kelby
Buy this one - he does them in CS5, i currently use Photoshop Elements 10 and most of the stuff i do in there i learned from CS4 book - Scott explains things very well!

I started using it last year around Aug - and i love tampering with my pics!
January 17th, 2012
@agima Yes I 100% believe you (thousands wouldnt)haha
January 17th, 2012
@agima You don't need photoshop you legend...... All done with your super set ups and proper lighting!!!!!
January 17th, 2012
@burmeister365 Just had a wee look at your pics, they are lush! Ty for sharing them. and TY about the tips about the book.
January 17th, 2012
i don't have photoshop so i don't photoshop. i rarely ever edit or process my photos. i play with them on picnik but most of the time i just use the framing tool and to put in my name tag. if i want to enhance the colour of my photos, my camera has that function anyway. but mostly, i don't process. maybe later on i would like to have a photoshop as apparently i would need that to do the cloning and levitation shots which are my goals for this year.

welcome to 365, you will love it here.
January 17th, 2012
I don't use photoshop, but I do use lIghtroom to convert my photographs to black and white but that's about it.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton Thank goodness.. I thought I was getting a name of someone that couldnt take a photo without photoshop. :)

Hey just to prove it, here is a photo I took on the weekend. :)

@onie Why thanks... I am just working on my latest photo now.. I think I almost sent myself blind looking into those strobes, while sitting in the dark... he he he
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop - would love to, but haven't learnt/had to money to buy yet. I tidy up - crop sometimes and play around with contrasts and saturation, but that's about all. I love so many of the photos on here, but do prefer to follow people who have a great eye, and are as SOOC as possible (and love all the new terminology I'm picking up here !). I am learning a lot just by looking at all your photos and seeing how you take photos (and why!)

Can't believe I've only been on here 17 days, it feels like I know so many of you already!
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop but I have done a couple of things in Picnik just for the fun of it. I do crop and can change some colors once in a while but mostly what ou see is what you get.
January 17th, 2012
I am the one!!! Pretty new..this is my first project...I do not use Photoshop or Lightroom or etc etc.
January 17th, 2012
@sharonaddison They are lovely. I especially like the houses of parliament shot!
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton
Just found this one on Amazon:

The Photoshop Elements 10 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
Scott Kelby

I will buy this one for myself - Photoshop Elements is great for editing or just adjusting, and not even that expensive!
January 17th, 2012
@burmeister365 Out of interest, how would I find out which edition of photoshop I have? It was a er.....gift from someone...haha
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton - thanks Karma!
January 17th, 2012
Two kinds of people don't use photoshop.
People who haven't mastered it yet.
And people who have philosophical objections because the photo God is offended when something from reality is changed. I call the second group 'idiots' to diferentiate.

If you ever have any photoshop questions I'd help, but youtube taught me how to use it, it's pretty simple if you follow videos.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton

mmm... i have a mac, and see it right away - dont know how you go about it on windows... never used it on windows...

I suppose if you right click on the icon on your desktop - you should see at the bottom: properties - think that should tell you if you click on it...
January 17th, 2012
Haha, id definatley fall into the first category. Except there should be a third,... people who throw the laptop at the wall when it tells them to use 'layers'...that would be me!
I think, as someone said before, those who do photoshop turn a photo into something completely different, its more artistic than photographing IMHO, so I doff my hat to those who can...
January 17th, 2012
think I have cs4....who knows tho ha
January 17th, 2012
@chewyteeth

Agree fully!! If all else fails - youtube!!
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop either, because I don't have it, although it is on my wishlist...I play around with crops and colour effects in picnik and picasa though, and have been very happy with the ease of use of these :) Welcome to 365, it looks as though we're at the same point into this journey :)
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton

Yeah it turns a photo into an image, into an art work like Jason Daniels said, but a photo by itself is only worth keeping as a holy object if it is needed for veracity, evidence. Police crime scene photos wouldn't be suitable for photoshop processing, neither would holiday brochure photos. But I want to create a beautiful image and there is no professional reason why my photos need to remain as objects of truth.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton When it starts up it tell you what version you have, or you can go to the about off the help menu
January 17th, 2012
I have CS5 and I love it, just having the option to get creative make each photo extra exciting. I haven't had it long and already I am in love lol. Before photoshop I used GIMP it's free and very similar in ways to photoshop.
January 17th, 2012
January 17th, 2012
Hee
@karmajnewton I'm a photoshop addict :D but you can type "SOOC" in the search box to see the list of unedited posting.
January 17th, 2012
@heesc brilliant, ty
January 17th, 2012
@simplysnapped Oooh...a new one to try, about to download GIMP now :) Thanks for the tip :)
January 17th, 2012
@aleksandra Any time :)
January 17th, 2012
I have only used photoshop on a couple shots to merge two pics together. Other than that I usually just like to add a vignette or do selective color through picnik. I have no cluw how to do some of the seriously fancy stuff I have seen in some shots but I would love to learn it!
January 17th, 2012
I rarely edit. I use photoshop (or any other editing program) to have fun sometimes, to correct something when it really needs correcting, and to experiment a little. I am pretty new to the DSLR stuff myself and my personal goa is to learn how to shoot a great picture that doesn't needs editing and really understand what I'm doing there before I can move on to really learning what editing is all about. Editing with programs is like when people spent hours in the darkroom to process their shots...just a modern darkroom. And, eventually, I'll use it more. For now, that's ot my concentration but I do use them to become exposed to them and see what they can do...but I won't begin to say I'm any kind of an expert!
January 17th, 2012
@chewyteeth LOL. I cannot say i disagree, hahaha.
January 17th, 2012
Me!! Most of my shots are totally SOOC. Sometimes I do a bit of a crop or occasionally change to b/w though I was given a Photoshop at Christmas so maybe soon!
January 17th, 2012
Nia
Look @momsta, fabulous shots and not photoshopped.
January 17th, 2012
So, on that matter all i have to say is: there has always been retouch in pictures since the beginning of times, back when the world was a great ball of fire, haha.

When a photographer chooses to use the film Tri-X Kodak to take pictures, for instance, he knows that is because the pictures will come out with great contrast and unnatural, and that is what he desires.

When a photographer over or underexposes parts of a negative in a darkroom, he is altering "reality" too.

in fact, instead of a film picture, a digital picture is a combination of mid-tones more and less dull. To get the best of it, you have to alter it to the way your eyes see it, or the way you want it to be seen. It is the same reason why women wear make up. To emphasize reality.

I think this is part of being a photographer as much as learning how to take a picture.
January 17th, 2012
So SOOC? Would you call an image that had been tweaked using the Photoshop raw editer SOOC still?

The only other things I do is crop a bit here and there then add a watermark. :)
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton Try Adobe tv, they have some great beginners tutorials :)
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop, I'd love to eventually but at the moment working out how to use our camera properly is enough for me!!
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop, I don't have it. However, I cannot say I don't edit my pics at all. I usually edit slightly because I prefer natural look. As I shoot in RAW I have to at least convert to jpeg. I use Capture NX2 (the Nikon software), and most often I slightly play with contrast, exposure (one nice thing with RAW shooting), and sometimes a bit more. But 365 is also a place for experimentation for me, so on occasion I do heavier editing with Capture Nx2 and Picnik, just for fun and only for this project :-)
January 17th, 2012
I am finding it a bit amusing to see people respond that they don't Photoshop! But then list the other editing programs they use. Photoshop is just the name of editing software, not an action. If you are using gimp, picnic, or any other program you are still editing your image. Same as photoshop. ;) I use PS CS5.
January 17th, 2012
Spirited debate here, not something I intended, but it goes to show how passionate people are about their work and hobbies! I guess what made me ask the original question is because when I joined, my 'latest' page just showed pretty much all photos which had been heavily edited, as opposed to beginners like myself who just tweak colours etc, which in turn made me want to see if there was anyone else who really just point and click and hope for the best x
January 17th, 2012
Mostly no prior to joining 365. I have been playing around with editing more lately due to this site but don't really feel like I have mastered it. I don't like to do too much editing because I almost feel like it's not my photo anymore.

I will say some of my fave shots though have been SOOC.
January 17th, 2012
i don't photoshop - it is something i would like to learn how to do because i see some really wonderful and creative images here and think, wow, wish i could do that - but have not mastered it so use picnik when want to adjust contrast or do add a frame, stuff like that.
January 17th, 2012
@catsmeowb I cant even imagine how long it takes to master fotoshop... its huge!
January 17th, 2012
It depends on my day. Some days I post SOOC or just slightly edited and other days I process HDR. My primary goal is to always get the shot right so that I have little editing. Well, except in the case of HDR!
January 17th, 2012
I tweek a bit on iPhoto and have some fun on Picnik but none of my photos have gone through Photoshop. I find for me that is a good place to start with some minor editing to enhance the shots without too much work or changes to the actually shot.
January 17th, 2012
I very much prefer not to. Occasionally I'll tweak colour levels, but that's about it. The only thing I'd really use it for a panoramics but I haven't done one of those for a while. I don't have the patience to learn how to do anything else!
January 17th, 2012
I don't use photoshop-I use lightroom. Does that count? ;) But I try not to use it too much/if at all. Most of the time if I am doing anything I try to get it done in camera. I am still amazed at how much of the stuff I used to waste hours editing into a picture to get 'right' can be done right there in the settings, so I am trying to force myself outside of the lightroom and back into the camera more :)
January 17th, 2012
I use photoshop for some of the challenges like WWYD but in my everyday shots I use Picnik to do basic tweaking, sharpening if necessary and framing for presentation but thats all.
January 17th, 2012
I have never photoshopped, but I do edit in paintshop because some of the minor adjustments (brightness, contrast, clarity, color balance) make a good photo great. Also, 365 is a great opportunity so in a year I went from being all about the minimum edits to wanting to try how Picasso and picking edits can also change a feeling of a photo or express your mood. I am glad I adjusted my rules because it has been a great learning tool and I think it has paid off in my photos.
January 17th, 2012
I just started learning a bit about photoshop myself. I really try hard not to use anything bc I am trying to teach myself to take good pics first. I do use vignette and some stuff on portraits. Ive been here about two weeks and love it. Welcome!
January 17th, 2012
I use it, but only to crop and sometimes add a little contrast.....or to make things B&W. Most of my stuff is SOOC.
January 17th, 2012
@debsphotos @gabrielklee
Solid points made here.

In my opinion, and opinion is all it is, one should have a grasp of the fundamentals before getting crazy with an editing software. (not that I did or do)
That said, it depends on what you wish to achieve. One of my heroes is Ansel Adams. (not that I am ANYWHERE near that) Adams achieved his spectacular images because he manipulated his images. This is still true today in the digital world.
Oh, BTW, every single image is manipulated. The difference is only how much, who makes the decisions and when they are made.

I hope this does not sound defensive or dismissive, it is not meant to. Use whatever method gives you the result you intend.
January 17th, 2012
I would have never succeeded in levitation without editing. I was so proud that I figured it out. Imagine not developing new skills while. Posting everyday.@chewyteeth
January 17th, 2012
hi i try and do most of mine sooc, i may use picnik for a frame or something like that
January 17th, 2012
I don't edit much~ I may crop and possibly adjust the contrast (in picnik) don't have photoshop.
January 17th, 2012
@brumbe What is 'levitation' in photo terms?x
January 17th, 2012
Mostly I only do minor adjustments, mostly cropping, if I do anything on my photos. Since this is a hobby, I don;t want to spend the time on the editing side. Occasionally when I hear of some technique that sounds interesting to me I will try it out.
January 17th, 2012
I do not use any kind of editing program on my photos. Not for any other reason than I just don't have enough free time to learn how to use them. It's on my "someday" list!
January 17th, 2012
Am only using this for snapshots taken with my phone, so no editing.
January 17th, 2012
For cropping and straightening about 95pct of the time. Remaining are minor exposure adjustments or greyscale.
January 17th, 2012
I use photoshop only to make color adjustments like levels or selected color. Sometimes I'll change something to b&w, but even that I enjoy do on the camera side.
January 17th, 2012
Some days I use photoshop but I am definitely not an expert, however I don't always use it as I want the photo to speak for itself and not my expertise with the software!
January 17th, 2012
I do not photoshop. The only editing I usually do is to crop, tho occasionally I go with B&W or I straighten or lighten a picture. I'm really not into my Project for the artistic-ness but more for remembering the things around me in my day-to-day life.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton there are plenty of us that started off with no post-processing; my first year the only post-processing I did was the occasional crop. For my second year, I'm doing some post-processing just to learn (and I've started a second album that takes my first year's photos and edits them - whether it's some special effect or just adjusting lighting or saturation depends on the image). Others that have done something similar are @minxymissk and @triciaanddazzle, both of whom have lots of amazing photos.
January 17th, 2012
@dhostick TY very much, Ill take a look, its great to know im not alone!
January 17th, 2012
I haven't even tried to photoshop. My goal right now is to learn what my camera can do --- I have only been shooting in manual mode and RAW in order to learn this. I am aware everyone says that you should shoot in RAW in order to use photoshop, but I just find RAW more colorful. I will eventually probably move to photoshop, but I have enough to work on right now. The only thing I have done to date is to crop a picture which I do right in iPhoto where I store my pictures.
January 17th, 2012
I do photoshop things in general, but I haven't edited any of this year's photos.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton
Levitation is a photo where it looks like you are floating in air while doing normal things and looking everyday.
My first one is still a personal favorite because it was such a fun epic fail. I did this one by walking off the wall, but in turn ended up looking like a cheerleader in mid flight

The second one was three photos put into one (with layers) through paint shop and then all the extra stuff erased out. There are some real flaws, but I enjoy the learning process and am really proud that I figured this out. I will probably not rush to do something like this again for a while, but knowing that I understand the technique, developed the skills, executed well enough is a real personal reward for me. I really learned not to steer clear of editing because it really helps your develop technically.

And almost no one can levitate like @elke can.

January 17th, 2012
I do not, would not have a clue how to and do not own it! I would like to someday though!!
January 17th, 2012
I've been using Photoshop for years so it's kind of a habit for me. I try not to "over-edit" unless that's the look I want to achieve. But nearly all of my photos are edited in some way, shape or form. Sometimes it's very subtle, sometimes it's not.
January 17th, 2012
I usually only crop and adjust contrast.
January 17th, 2012
I don't have Photoshop - would love to have it though :-) My pictures are just me and my camera with only a possible crop of the picture.
January 17th, 2012
I do some light (meaning not heavy) editing using the very simple program that comes with iPhoto on my Mac. I think I have posted a few SOOC pics but, to use another poster's analogy, my photos are like me: they look much better with a bit of make-up. In addition, with one or two exceptions, all of my photos are shot with a P&S in autofocus. In other words, quite basic photo-taking.
January 17th, 2012
I use Pixelmator which is a lighter/cheaper version of PS Elements. It's a great way to learn the different tools and layers. Someday, I will photoshop for real
January 17th, 2012
I don't have photoshop & I'm way too lazy to move my pics over to the computer first to edit them anyway lol...BUT I am using the phone on my camera and all of the apps & filters I can, I want to learn what I can do with them! :)
January 17th, 2012
@cfitzgerald Pixelmator is so similar to PhotoShop that you would not have any trouble adjusting to it. :-)
January 17th, 2012
I try to do as little editing as possible, though every once in a while, I go nuts and do some insane editing. Mainly I just pump up saturation (make the colors a bit more vibrant), and sometimes straighten a bit. Even my crazy cat photos, example, my cat wearing antlers for Christmas, have hardly any or no editing.
January 17th, 2012
I just crop.
January 17th, 2012
@lilbudhha - Ansel Adams...stunning work. I also love Annie Liebovitz's work and, one of the greats from the Civil War era, Matthew Brady, a true innovator in field photography.
January 17th, 2012
I just crop in picasa so no fancy programs here!
January 17th, 2012
Nope. Use Lightroom 3 :)
January 17th, 2012
I like photoshop and other programs, but not for my 365 project. Bare bones, whatever catches my fancy that day kind of photography for this. :)
January 17th, 2012
I use Photoshop as a graphic designer, but rarely for photos. Most of my photos are unedited. Most of the time I don't even crop them. If I do use Photoshop on my photos it is to remove things like road markers or cables.
January 17th, 2012
ive never use photoshop. Sometimes picasa, but the most of the time my pictures are sooc
January 17th, 2012
I touch up a few pictures, but for the most part my photos are unedited.
January 17th, 2012
I don't own PS ( yet) but I do edit some...I'm not against, it I think its an amazing tool..but most of my favorite photos are SOOC
January 17th, 2012
ME! I prefer my photos to be simple and real.
January 17th, 2012
I have photoshop but do not use it that often and if I do it is to crop and fix a bit of color . I think photoshop is fun but can be hard to use sometimes.
January 17th, 2012
Bev
I rarely use it for anything but adding frames or putting my signature on my photos. I might tweak an image here and there, but most of my pictures are SOOC.
January 17th, 2012
I hardly edit my pictures except occasionally rotate and edit the contrast. I don't really consider it photography when a photo is overly edited. It's supposed to be about your own skill. Not the skill a program adds.
January 17th, 2012
The world's most acclaimed photographers are masters at Photoshop. Before Photoshop, people like Ansel Adams were masters in the dark room (which is the same thing only using chemicals on film).
January 17th, 2012
I own it, used it once... can't/don't have the patience to figure it out lol... it's gathering dust on my desk!
January 17th, 2012
Hi and welcome to 365.. most of my pictures are SOOC..once in a while I add a frame here or there..I have picnik but don't use it that much...too complicated. I'm in my third year now and I think I have some of fmy pictures very good,,good and some pour ones...take you peak..be happy to follow you if you find my pictures of interest to you.
January 17th, 2012
Most of mine are sooc, either because I (a) meant to take it that way, (b) don't have time to mess w/ it, (c) haven't completely mastered ps, or a combination of the three. My most likely edit is cropping, I also work on lighting/contrast every now and then...I always list my post-processing work in my caption as I think it is helpful for myself and others.
January 17th, 2012
@harley84 so what program do you use?
January 17th, 2012
I don't do much i the way of editing - usually a judicious crop is about it.

That said I do want to learn more about post processing and looking into courses. I have started a new (to me) type of photography and that is infrared photography and to succeed with the wonderful "false colour" images in that space I need to use it in order to switch the red and blue colour channels. Not using those shots at present as I am on a bit of a retrospective at present.
January 17th, 2012
@100summits THANK YOU. Jesus beezus, but his books should be required reading, and then MAYBE folks would get that.
January 17th, 2012
@brumbe just Piknik and Picassa :o)
January 17th, 2012
I use PS elements fot every picture as I usually shoot in raw. I tend to use JPEGs only for sports events to make my camera shoot faster!
January 17th, 2012
@harley84 now you may be more awesome.
January 17th, 2012
I am also just cropping and using picasa and piknik now and then. But I try to post as many SOOC photo's as possible. My sister uses GIMP (free, and la lot like Photoshop) a lot. I have that on my pc, but still have to learn how to use it:)
January 17th, 2012
Amy
I don't own Photoshop. I do very little editing in Picasa. It's way easier and has just the minor tweaks that I need without all the headaches.
January 17th, 2012
I don't edit my photos in any way. I let the camera speak for itself.
January 17th, 2012
Im only 14, and I dont know how to use photoshop! I have CS5 but I use picnik to crop and such!
January 17th, 2012
I shoot primarily in raw (not in THE raw!!!), though my camera has two card slots and allows me to select raw for one card and JPEG for the other. For shots that don't require much if any editing, I run them as JPEGs through iPhoto on my iMac. For those that need more attention, I import the raw version to Adobe Lightroom, do my tweaks and export as JPEGs. For the minor editing I do, and because of my aversion to over-editing photos so much that they lose their original look and feel, I find that Photoshop would be overkill for me...AND it's expensive!
January 17th, 2012
I do not edit my pictures, except for an occassional crop. Just me and the camera.
January 17th, 2012
I tend not to photoshop just because I dont have the time nor skill. If i edit it is to black and white, sepia or cropping. Very seldom do I feel comfortable altering the image too much. I prefer looking at images in their more natural state.
January 17th, 2012
@karmajnewton I haven't got Photoshop. I use Picasa for editing. May not be a brilliant but it suits me as it's not a big program and it's easy to use. JMHO
January 17th, 2012
I don't have photoshop--I use picnik but barely edit most of my pictures :)
January 17th, 2012
I usually just do SOOC. I crop and sometimes B&W. I'm trying to better my skills, once I've done that, I may play a bit more.

@coastandcactus I had to giggle at your "not in THE raw" ... thanks for the laugh :)
January 17th, 2012
No Photoshop for me - I do a bit of straightening and cropping in Picasa, but that's about all. Must say though that would love to afford and/or try Photoshop!
January 17th, 2012
@coastandcactus LOL at 'raw' comment!!! note to self .... find out more about shooting in RAW!
January 17th, 2012
@bobfoto Yeah I kinda feel the same way... although, is the same said for the darkroom editing some were masters at on film? I just don't know. For me, for now... I'm just trying to capture on my camera what I'm seeing with my eyes in front of me... ya know.
January 17th, 2012
I don't really use it except MAYBE to lighten or darken, and I have iPhoto. Nothing fancy at all. Granted, I'm no professional photographer or anything... :p
January 17th, 2012
All my shots are SOOC. I may very occasionally crop but that's it. I want my photograph to be what I saw.
January 17th, 2012
Just some contrast and cropping, that's it. And when I'm in a fancy mood, I play with some b/w and color. But nothing with layers or something. I think simple things are the most beautiful.
January 17th, 2012
Hello, I do not photoshop, I think I did maybe 3 times last year, and I definitely disclaimered each photo I DID do it on, I think it's more fun to shoot without editing. :)
January 17th, 2012
I use Paint Shop Pro and GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org/) to edit my photos. I cannot afford to use Photoshop or Lightroom or any other professional processing programs. I try to stick with all free programs (except for Paint Shop Pro). I use a free program to do my HDR photos (Luminance HDR - http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/) and to make my panorama photos (Hugin - http://hugin.sourceforge.net/).
January 17th, 2012
I don't photoshop, and don't know how to either. I try to get my inspiration by looking at shots people post that are of everyday life or a unique perspective.
January 18th, 2012
all my pics are straight out of the camera........and i like it that way ( it makes me take more time with each shot....and is more of a challenge, that's how i look at it anyway).....
January 18th, 2012
All my pictures are right from the camera as well. As a designer I use software a lot and it's nice to try and get my pictures to the level that they deliver the message I want without manipulation.
January 18th, 2012
I don't edit, photoshop, etc. I just post. I want it to be exactly what I see. =)
January 18th, 2012
The only editing that I do is to occasionally clone out something in a corner that I didn't notice when I took the photo.
January 18th, 2012
i have photoshop elements, a lot less expensive than photoshop. i find it fun and pretty easy to use, pretty entertaining at times actually.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton Most all of my photos are SOOC, I learned photoshop half my life ago, and still use it but mainly for resizing these days. There are times where I will rubber stamp a portion out but I'm not one for over use of filters ect. The one exception to this is the series that I did for Picnic at Pemberley, though when I submitted the photos to the Museum I was photographing for I also included original colored images.
On occasion I will use it to rescue a phone camera shot since I'm using an iphone 3 which has a really horrible camera.
January 18th, 2012
I don't mind photoshop... and generally enjoy it for my own benefit. But, I don't use it (other than cropping) for this and in general.
January 18th, 2012
Definitely no photoshop here! I am still learning...and trying to get the best pics I can without editing. Plus I don't have tons of time.
January 18th, 2012
I don't. I am not smart enough.
January 18th, 2012
I personally use photoshop quite a bit, but I know @surferfreak absolutely refuses to use photoshop in any of his pictures and they turn out pretty nicely :)
January 18th, 2012
I don't use photoshop at all - I am a complete beginner photographer and am doing my project as a journalling exercise, with the fortunate spin off that I get to learn a new art form along the way! I also love seeing shots that haven't been edited!!
January 18th, 2012
I don't use photoshop, way to frustrating for me.
January 18th, 2012
For me: minimal photoshop and exactly as they come straight off the memory card. I find heavily processed photos not interesting at all and quite boring. I also mess about with film and polaroid quite a bit.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton The only editing I'm letting myself do is crop and/or change the photo to b&w/sepia. For me it's more of a challenge to get something to look how I want it to without (much) editing (make sense? lol). Sure it means some of the photos don't turn out as good as they could, but that's part of the process. :)
January 18th, 2012
I dont have it. Ive seen some photos that have been photoshopped and I think it takes away from the natural and takes away ones natural ability to capture a great photo
January 18th, 2012
I have it but I tend to use Aperture, which I love. I'm also just using this project as a diary in the life of Karen. I've got a great camera but half the shots I've posted are off my iPhone. They are the ones that best document my day. For me it's about how a photo make me feel.
January 18th, 2012
Tim
i dont, sooc for me. occasional crop job, but thats it.
January 18th, 2012
I only use it when I am really bored...and even then I will usually only go as far as turning a shot black and white and then allow bits of color to show through.
January 18th, 2012
I don't photoshop... have never learned how yet... I use Photoscape (it's free) and Picknik. Once in a while I play with pixlr.com and/or the photo editor in my PrintShop program.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton all my pictures are untouched. The only thing I do is rotate them so the orientation is correct and leave it at that. I do often take lots of shots in the attempt to get one I like, but so far I haven't even cropped.
January 18th, 2012
I don't have photoshop... As a single mom it was never really an option before. But my fiance recently told me that after our June wedding he wants to get me a nicer computer with photoshop on it. :) YAY me!
January 18th, 2012
I use photoshop to crop images. No heavy editing.

But sometimes I do depending on the composition.

But I never watermark Images.
January 18th, 2012
I post a lot SOOC. I do use picnik some for cropping and b/w or sepia. I also have discovered their soften feature, which I really like for certain things. I don't, however, change the 'look' of the picture. I'm really new to it and don't really know much about it, but I also like just trying to learn to just take a great picture!
January 18th, 2012
i am not photoshopping at the moment, the stuff i am pasting is directly from iphone via the hipstermatic app , to this forum. loving it and it also makes me hone my skills better, think more before taking a photo, because i am not photoshopping. . cheers
January 18th, 2012
Art
@karmajnewton The secret to good photography, in my humble opinion, is getting composition, exposure, focus, cropping, editing etc done through the lens to begin with at the time you take the shot. In the olden days, way back predigital, many of those elements were not evaluated until the photos or slides returned from the lab. Nowadays digital provides instant feedback and additional opportunities to capture the image you seek, but it still requires awareness of how a camera captures everything it is pointed at. Hone your skills as best you can before you embark on a complicated Photoshop journey. Later when you want additional tweeking of your photos, you can correct through additional cropping techniques, color correction , exposure correction etc various elements in your photo. If the potential is not in the original due to poor basic skills with your camera, Photoshop can do little to make something out of nothing. However, it can do some amazing things for a well composed well focused image. I recently took a photo of some beautiful tulips while visiting Alaska, but was so awed by their beauty that I did not notice distracting wires slicing right through the background. With a little Photoshop magic, I was able to salvage the beauty of the tulips by removing the unwanted distractions.Good photography is, by its nature, a subtractive art form not an additive one.You keep removing everything that doesn't contribute to the message you are trying to convey until the image says exactly what you want. see example below
January 18th, 2012
I don't photoshop. I don't own it either. it's not that I'm opposed to it but just don't have it and much knowledge of it. I'm open to all images/Art Photoshopped or not! :)
January 18th, 2012
Depends. To be honest, I usually just adjust levels and stuff, if there's a requirement for things to be chopped out (and sometimes there is) then I'll use Photoshop. However, I find that these days Lightroom handles most of my everyday needs - Rarely open up PS much anymore.
January 18th, 2012
pretty much all SOOC here. an occasional enhance w/ iphoto. maybe one day when my kids are older i'll have the time, energy and inclination to learn post-processing.
January 18th, 2012
Don't own it! wouldn't know what to do with it even if i did =/
i do use iphoto to change b/w, exposure or saturation, but it tends to look really fake so I try to stay away from that.
January 18th, 2012
@chewyteeth GO DAVE...GO DAVE...GO DAVE....I don't think people fully understand the workings of cameras...ALL cameras change what we see, you will never truly take a photo that EXACTLY mimics what we see, so therefore every camera does a little or a lot of in camera processing.
I don't have a problem with photoshopping or editing of any kind I really do admire people who have mastered PS because it is very complicated, but like most things in life if you try hard enough and long enough you will eventually get the hang of it.
Thats my humble opinion:)
January 18th, 2012
@otdafot AGREE TOTALLY and very well said:)
January 18th, 2012
I definitely don't do PS. I can't figure it out! That being said, I would really love to achieve the perfect shot every time SOOC, but I'm just too much of an amateur for that!
January 18th, 2012
@veekay Amen sister. :)
January 18th, 2012
RC
Hey I don't photoshop. Only once in a way to rotate an image slightly if the lines are a bit slant or to crop. And I agree with you. I am someone who loves Film photography. I switched to digital only because of the convenience and because its difficult to develop film nowadays where I stay. I love photos pure and natural.
January 18th, 2012
I have Photoshop CS4 but I rarely open it because I can't do much with it yet. I use Lightroom 3 to handle my images and I crop, straighten, and make minor adjustments usually to contrast and maybe bump exposure up or down if it is needed. But, I will definitely use LR3 noise reduction for high ISO shots. That is magic.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton I don't photoshop either, that ruins the purpose of true photography. Let the camera create the image as it sees it, not as you a program wants it to look like. I just use the many functions on my camera to create different lighting colors and scenes, etc.
January 18th, 2012
I started with film SLR back in the day, so my focus (ha,no pun intended)... my goal is always to get the shot sooc. Now with digital I do use Picasa to rotate or crop, occasional B&W, but still prefer sooc. I don't have PhotoShop. When people post their "before" and "after" images, I usually prefer the "before" shot!
January 18th, 2012
I don't photoshop because I don't have it and I don't know how to use it. I do use picnik sometimes to selective colour, change it to B&W, adjust colours slightly, etc. I really like organic pictures but I do like to play with editing sometimes for fun!
January 18th, 2012
I don't have Photoshop either. I do use the enhance and crop features that I do have occasionally but that is about it.
January 18th, 2012
I don't own photoshop. I use effects that are already on my camera or I'll use iPhoto to boost the color or change the coloring or something.
January 18th, 2012
@ozziehoffy - I think I have to sneeze.... Aaahahhahahaaa ahahaha a FrankHurley Choooooooooo!

Yes, creative genius, he too turned photographs into images.
January 18th, 2012
What a lot of people don't realise is that the little chip in your camera IS photoshopping the image. It's boosting the contrast and saturation, fixing lens distortion, sharpening edges and removing darkening at the corners, and that's before you even choose an in camera 'effect'.

At some point people choose to take full control of this 'developing process' themselves, and it's down to personal taste how far you take that without ruining the 'moment' you captured. The main thing, I think, is that people are able to express what they saw, whether the camera is able to capture that straight off or they need to bring it out in post production.
January 18th, 2012
Me!! - because I don't know how to use photoshop, it is too technical for me but it is something I want to learn for a bit of fun and variety. Having said that I use a little picnik or my iphoto editing but it is really basic stuff to take away shadow or boost the colour a little.
January 18th, 2012
@karma newton, I'm not photoshoping at all...all natural / original shots from my camera to here...I'm just a beginner as you. :) Welcome to follow me, anytime. :)
January 18th, 2012
I don't do photoshop. Basic cropping/ black white on Picasa only. If I can't take it well, it doesn't get taken.
January 18th, 2012
I don't often Photoshop, only put my names on the images really!!!
January 18th, 2012
I'm also just beginning so I haven't really gotten the hang of photoshop yet. Maybe later but for now...it's pretty much sooc.
January 18th, 2012
I sometimes use Picasa when the lighting is bad or when I want to crop pictures to highlight it more. :) I have the old version of the PHotoshop but did not get around to learning it yet.
January 18th, 2012
@bobfoto lol.... need a tissue? This whole thing is a bit like Ford/Holden... Canon/Nikon now... eeek.
January 18th, 2012
Mel
@karmajnewton i don't know how to photoshop yet :D i take a gazillion pictures everyday
January 18th, 2012
i edit photos, not all, but most, but - i never touched PS - i just can't make head or tail out of it)))) can't imagine i will be able to some day))
January 18th, 2012
I dont photoshop. I sometimes do edit my photos by cropping them or enchancing colors or lightness or contrast.
January 18th, 2012
Kat
I'm a reformed photoshopper. I just don't have time to play in my new life. :) I use aperture to do basic editing and that's it. :D
January 18th, 2012
I do not photoshop any of my shots. Natural seems the best for me.
January 18th, 2012
I use Ulead Photo Express to crop and resize. Very occasionally, I'll add an effect here or there, but most of the time I want the photo to speak for itself.
January 18th, 2012
No, I post the picture just the way it was captured by my camera....Yes I'm a novice. But I joined to learn how to use my camera,it's features and my creativity :)
January 18th, 2012
I never Photoshop, in part because I don't have it, and in part because I wouldn't want too much editing to ruin the moment I just shot. If a picture isn't turning out the way I want it to, it just doesn't get taken and I move on to something else
January 18th, 2012
jan
Im not into heavy editing, I may do a crop but thats about it, I think of my pictures as how the world was when I took them and not how I would like it to be. But then never say never.
January 18th, 2012
I know I have Photoshop Elements on my computer, but I never use it unless I'm printing old scanned photos and need a certain size. Life is too short to use it doctoring up pictures for 365. I prefer the sooc variety.
January 18th, 2012
I started off not editing at all but then moved on to tweaking in iPhoto. I prefer not to do much to them. I have used Photoshop in the past for work and it's a whole different ballgame. There's some amazing stuff out there but maybe I am just too lazy to join in! :)
January 18th, 2012
Some I do, some I don't. Never any aggressive edits, just general cropping, sharpening and color enhancements. Oh and I add a little watermark. Never takes me more than 5 minutes to fix then upload. As of right now, i'd say 70% are un-touched in PS.
January 18th, 2012
I do not photoshop, because I don't know how. I use picasa to minor changes, but what I see is what I get.
January 18th, 2012
Amy
I don't! Heated debate in my household! I do some little bits of editing but I'm mostly unedited.
January 18th, 2012
I do not Photoshop.....Basic cropping, B&W, minor changes using Picnik. I rarely do much editing. I just don't have a lot of time to do that.
January 18th, 2012
I have never used photoshop. or lightroom.
January 18th, 2012
I don't photo shop or any editing really. Just occasionally use the features that are already on my camera! This 365 project for me is just about what I can see.
However, if time permits in the near future i'd like to start another album of 'touched' photos!
Yeah, yeah....when will I have time for that! ;)
January 18th, 2012
I do not have photo shop so trying to learn to get the best from what I see in the lens. Have made some B&W just with windows live gallery,
January 18th, 2012
@veekay
whhoooop!!
Self taught is best.
January 18th, 2012
@ozziehoffy - tomarto vs tomayto???
January 18th, 2012
No Photoshop use here. I would not even know how to begin and wouldn't want to even if I did. I rarely even crop. When I was taught photography (years ago, in practically another life! lol!) it was the old school way-what I see is what YOU see, and the real talent (and magic) of capturing an image involves perspective, lighting, composition...and a helluva lotta luck & patience! Plus there was not much of any editing available back then either-I learned dodging & burning and such in darkroom printing, but that was about it! I get that editing has a place in creating images, but there is a fine line between true photography and digitally produced images. I would advise to learn how to capture a "good" image "organically/naturally' first. That comes from shooting, shooting & more shooting! :)
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton I am one that does not use it. The most I will do is a slight color adjustment or croping. One toime I did erase some phone lines. To me the photoshop chop and mixup is a art all it's own. I am one for the picture looking as close to possible to what you actually take. No offence to all others that use it.
January 18th, 2012
I hardly ever use it. Ocassionally I do, to enhance colours etc, and have recently been using it for selective colour images, although I tend not to use it too much.
January 18th, 2012
nope,.i use Lightroom
January 18th, 2012
So glad you brought up this discussion. I've seen so many extraordinary shots on the 365 and have wondered the same thing. I do not photoshop but will do an auto correct or enhancement occasionally. Sometimes the original is better than the correction, so I switch it back. Montana is beautiful and I want people to see it like it really is.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton ,

I upload a lot of sooc, just today my 3 uploads are sooc. But eventually I do some editing because this is one of my goals in the project, to learn editing and to improve my creativity.

Mostly I am a big fan of SOOC, but I must confess that I use very often the settings from the camera to improve colors and contrast.

Hope that helps.
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton ,

and when I edit my pictures usually I reveal the working behind it.
January 18th, 2012
I do not edit any photos I take. To me that changes it from photography to graphic design. I don't enjoy taking pictures of people unless it's candid. I do think its ok to edit professional portraits. I want skills as a photographer, using a camera, not a computer.
January 18th, 2012
I don't edit any of my photos, either. My editing skills are limited, to be honest, but that's not why I decided to start this project. For me, this project is about what I see in the camera, not what I'd like to see.
January 18th, 2012
I actually don't photoshop. At all. Purely because I dont have it and i love my pictures to be really random yet beautiful through the way i see it XD so if you'd like to check out my photos, thatd be great :)
January 18th, 2012
My pictures are pretty much sooc. I do a little cropping and color/contrast correction in Picassa but don't know how to use PhotoShop. I'd like to learn to be more technical but prefer a more natural look.
January 18th, 2012
I haven't learnt how to just yet :)
January 18th, 2012
99% of my shots are taken and uploaded from my phone without going near my computer until after they're live, I do have an editing app on the phone which does minimal things (cropping, colour wash, colour intensity) but that is the extent of my tweaking. I think I've done one shot where I've used photoshop.
January 18th, 2012
mag
I don't even own photoshop.....I do take HDR shots and process them...I usually use the Canon software to enhance the sharpness and saturation of photos depending on the shot....
January 18th, 2012
@karmajnewton

No photoshopping here. I am a complete beginner. I would like to try some of those types of programs in another venue, but here on the 365 it will be straight photography, mistakes and all
January 18th, 2012
I don't use photoshop, as I am taking all my photos on my iphone this year using an app called Instagram. It's a personal challenge to see the type of images I produce. That app does have some filters, but it doesn't change the images - more like adding borders and modifying the contrast a little in some cases.
January 19th, 2012
@karmajnewton Most of my pics are unedited. I may do a little cropping a boarder here and there. But, for the most part mine are raw.
January 19th, 2012
@karmajnewton I don't photoshop anything I post on this site... they are all taken directly from the camera to the monitor.... no middle-man
January 19th, 2012
THANK YOU FOR ASKING THAT QUESTION! and thanks to all that have anserwed I have been wondering myself ..I don't know how to use it and have not used it, however I do crop and lighten some times... although... I would love to de-wrinkle my face!!!!!
January 19th, 2012
@karmajnewton All I do is crop and resize. I think of Project 365 as a way to show pictures in the moment, as they were seen.
January 19th, 2012
Nope, no Photoshop.
January 19th, 2012
I use Piknik.com...it 's free. I edit alot of my shot, when I think they need the enhancing that comes from that....
January 19th, 2012
Awesome thread, thanks Karma. I like following people who don't seem to have edited the bejeezus out of all their shots too. I don't photoshop, minor cropping and straightening - maybe B&W but thats about it.
January 19th, 2012
I don't edit. I would if I had the software or knew how, but I am a beginner as well. So, I am taking it one step at a time. Step one: just learn to take a good photo consistantly. Step 2: (not here yet) learn to make a good photo better with some fancy editing!
January 19th, 2012
I am totally computer stupid!! i am learning to just do the basics..and have been a more natural girl all my life..I am experimenting a little to see if its my thing or not and then i just delete and Crop, lighten ,contrast and enhance color if needed..i noticed i dont like alot of the color enhancement and usually just stick with the original...It does make this project for me alot easier SOOC ..because i have noticed i spend alot of time and i mean alot of time in front of the computer if i decide to process or edit a photo! And then i need a massage to get all the knots out of my neck!! Some of the Photos i have seen on here just do not look real to me..But i am a strong believer of" to each its own."...everyone has choices .,,funny but i thought when i started this project that this (editing) was something i wanted to learn and im beginning to think NOT!! LOL...
January 19th, 2012
I put my pictures up as is.
January 19th, 2012
I don't like to use photoshop. I like to take pictures of the city and the sunsets and prefer to see the original picture in the most realistic way as possible. For my 365project I made the decision to avoid using Photoshop
January 19th, 2012
I don't use Photoshop. I have in the past before 365, but I honestly don't have time for it. I have done a little editing at times on my iPhone or in Picasa, but that's it. It's a good program, but I have other ways to spend my time. Plus, I didn't even install it on my newest computer.
January 19th, 2012
I don't have photoshop, but am TOTALLY addicted to picnik.com! It is VERY rare that I like an SOOC photo. They just all look pretty ordinary to me, and I find editing soooo much fun!! More fun than taking photos even. So that's my thing, but each to her own! There are no rules as long as you're having fun!
January 19th, 2012
*puts hand up* I don't Photoshop at all. The closest thing to Photoshop I use would be Paintshop Pro, but I rarely even use that!
January 19th, 2012
Hi All,

This is my first thread - I don't photoshop because I haven't learned the skills except to remove red eye from my photos. At the moment I'm reading through my manual about picture modes and filters and am turned off by the thought of cheating to get a result.

Should I nurture my photography skills using natural techniques or is it ok to "touch up" as an extension of creative licence? I entered this weeks theme competition with a "le natural" entry because I didn't know if "shopped" entries were acceptable?

I think I'm going to be a point and shoot kind of guy!
January 19th, 2012
PHOTOSHOP!!! doesn't that cost money?
January 19th, 2012
@swilde Haha, yes i think it costs a bit more than my rent! x
January 19th, 2012
Jo
I have a programme called Corel Draw, but I'm not that good with it. I don't photoshop any of my pictures on this site, just snap them and upload!
January 19th, 2012
@bobfoto That's it!
January 19th, 2012
I don't edit majority of my photos either, the occasional cropping and sadly I juse The Microsoft picture Manager to make most changes. I did download picasa after hearing some people mention that in other blogs.
January 19th, 2012
@karmajnewton I don't photoshop - i refuse to. i don't see the reasoning behind it.
the most i'll do is crop.
January 19th, 2012
I definitely do not use Photoshop for analogue work... This makes no logic to me.
I sometimes use the basic functions for digital motives...
January 19th, 2012
I use photoshop, in this project mostly only for the witch stap whit my name on it, but rarely do some editing on the pictures I place in my project
January 19th, 2012
Really late to the thread but I also don't use photoshop, I take pics then just upload them as they are!

Most of my pictures are straight out of camera. I rarely edit or crop any. EG My photo of the swan was just as I had taken it. I was surprised myself when I uploaded it that it was framed so well - probably more luck than judgement but I think that if you can take a good pic without having to mess it about with editing, it probably constitutes a good one. However, I must admit having viewed some that have been edited with all sorts of effects, they have been very striking as well so I may have a go at editing later. I have tried piknik a couple of times but have never used photoshop

I don't edit any of my pictures - don't even crop them - just upload them as is.

I have never attempted using photoshop, but I edit in picnik almost every day!

I rarely go into much editing, I use Lightroom to make some standard adjustments but haven't got photoshop

I don't edit and whilst i can see how good pics look with i also like to see a pic as it was meant to have been taken

All mine are SOOC. (I just learnt what that means *excited face)

I haven't done much with photoshop at this point. I am really trying to focus on learning to use my camera and not rest on being able to correct things afterwards. That said, I did have one picture that I cropped in picassa so far.

I don't edit, except what little I can do through iPhoto. I guess I think that you have to start with a good photo, so all of my pics are SOOC with just a little sharpening or color boost.

I don't have Photoshop. Sometimes I do use Picnik, but I'd say over half of my pictures are either sooc, or all I've done is tweaked the contrast a tad (which, back in the olden days, was done in darkrooms during developing... I know this because I worked in a darkroom with professional photographers that taught me how to do it). In some cases, all I do in Picnik is add a border, just because I think it looks sharp, but it doesn't change the look of the image itself. One mistake I've notice a ton of people do is boost the color to the point it looks very unnatural, so if you're going to boost color, remember that a little goes a long way

I don't use Photoshop, I do have it but I've not got a clue how to use it. I love pics that haven't been altered at all because you can see the true raw art in the pic rather than it being altered into a different masterpiece. I would love to use Photoshop and learn how to use it, especially the HDR effect which I think looks amazing and need to learn where to start on how to do them myself but for now I'm happy just me and my camera.

I use Canon Digitsal Photo Professional. It came with my camera... I shoot in raw and convert to other formats depending on what I want to do. I use Adobe PS for special effects, but I prefer to have everything done in-camera.. (old school film photographer..no straightening or cropping needed.) Picnik is another good photo editing program. I use it a work...

Kim
can't afford it and don't have the time but I do use some other editing sites. I'd love to learn how to do the color selector but haven't had chance to look into it yet. I use Picnik the most but don't really edit too much. I often feel that the editing can sometimes take away from the actual shot you were trying to get. Happy snapping :)

Though I do own photoshop, I don't overly edit...I actually prefer to try to do my composition in camera versus on the computer so that being said if I couldn't do it in the darkroom (like I did starting out) I don't do it now. I will say that yes last year I got bored like twice & did one sepia & one with an effect.

I never Photoshop pictures, i feel it takes away from the photo

I try to photoshop as little as possible... I sometimes like playing around with the brightness/contrast/saturation, but I try not to let it take away from the photo. If it's a good one, it doesn't really need to be photoshopped.

I did figure out how to make people skinny, so I've been playing around with that, but I would never actually do it on one of my 365 pictures. (:

I very rarely edit any more than putting my watermark on my photos.

I hardly ever edit. Maybe remove some red eye but thats about it. I like photos striaght from the camera.

The most I ever bother to mess with is watermark, contrast, or colour, and even then not by much and not very often. I'm not a huge fan of editing heavily and using a bunch of layers and brushes. I think in the four years I've been doing photography, I've only used brushes on maybe four pictures, and that was all within the last two months; One for a project, and the rest for experimentation. Unfortunately, if you take classes, you need to have SOME basic manipulation skills (although I don't see why, I believe that photo-maniuplation isn't called photography for a reason), and I plan on beginning classes in the next couple of years, so I thought it beneficial to begin experimenting. Not that I've done it very much. >.> lol

Most of the work in my deviantART is unedited, and about half of my black and whites are shot black and white directly from my smaller camera, so I don't even have to do that. I love the feeling of getting it done right myself, without relying on the computer program to do all the work for me. :)
