About 12 hours ago 365 Project went offline - that sucks, and I'm sorry!
I was out of the office taking a walk so only discovered the problem a few hours later. When I started digging in to the issue it turned in to a real nightmare.
This website sits on some servers in "the cloud" and unfortunately one of those servers died in a bad way and took our database with it - luckily the hosting company got my server back up and running but it had left some of the database files corrupted - which is never a good thing. I've been hard at work for the last 8 hours getting the database in a working and stable state - and as you can see the site is running again nicely now.
Hopefully you've been able to catch up on 365 things and upload your photos, if you find anything strange on the site do let me know and I'll look in to it straight away.
Again, apologies for the downtime! I hope you filled your time taking gorgeous photographs!
@Scrivna These things happen, you did very well to get it all working again. 365 is a bit like electricity, you don't realise how much you use it until it isn't there.
@Scrivna Hi Ross,
Horrible to have to try out the disaster recovery plan for real. Well done on getting 365 back, can only echo the above sentiments & say I really missed 365 whilst it was offline. Thank you for all your hard work and time spent on 365.
@Scrivna Thank you for all your hard work in getting us up and running again .. it really did feel something was missing from my day... thankfully I had a busy day ...
Wow Ross - how lucky we are to have you diligently sorting out this mess not of your making :) Thank you so much. So glad to wake this morning and find 365 back to its usual self - I mean, there are only so many evenings that I can sit and talk with Him Indoors ;)
Thanking you Ross at first thought it was my computor so appreciated updates . I do have question for you though that is do you have any idea how many participate in 365 project . Kind Regards Dawnee
@Scrivna So impressed with your dedication Ross. It must have been a real waking nightmare. Thanks for getting it back up and running - 365 is such an important part of many lives and such a wonderful community. Cheers from the land of the long white cloud - Aotearoa/NZ
Thank you very, very much for your work. Especially in this troublesome time last night, but also all over the year when everything runs smootly for us.
There will always be problems. It's how you handle them that counts. Your actions and communication clearly set an example for others to follow. Thank you!
Thank you for all that you do to keep the site up and running and fresh. What the heck...it kept me off the computer last night. Sometimes a good thing.
Thank you for letting us know what was happening, Ross. Everything seems to be fine now. You do such a great job running this site so we can all enjoy each others photos.
@Scrivna I'm a developer, so I get it. You do an great job providing us all with such an amazing forum to express ourselves, grow and meet like minded individuals from all over the globe. Thank you!
@Scrivna Just when you think you can come back from vacation and still be able to relax. Perhaps you should take another week vacation (holiday) to relax from relaxing.... (roomed with a systems programmer back in the mainframe days, he forgot to do a backup before doing maintenance and then spent most of the weekend recovering from that folly)
Thank you, Ross. I'm sure like many of us I clicked and clicked and clicked and clicked hoping that it would come back, but eventually just went out and got back to my life. Which, I think, is the spirit of a 365. Thanks for everything you do, this is an amazing community which I am glad to be a part of.
@Scrivna I can't say how much I appreciate the work you put into this site even when things are running smoothly! Thanks for the extra effort it took to put "Humpty Dumpty" back together again! You're awesome!
I don't know if it's a coincidence or related, but ever since coming back from the downtime, none of the photos I take with my phone will email here to my account. I've had to send them to my computer via an alternate email address, then come here and upload. Not impossible, but I liked the convenience of just emailing straight from the phone!
@Scrivna - thanks so much for fixing the problem Ross and getting us up and running again. I have noticed since we have been back on line that I am getting pop up adverts appearing when I click on the notifications tab or when I click a photo to view and comment. I have checked my computer for a virus but it is fine and these adverts only appear when I am on 365.
Thanks so much for sorting it out Ross, it must've been quite a slog.
what a nightmare for you. thanks for all your hard work Ross
Thanks Ross for sorting this - it sounds a nightmare. It surely made us realise how much we rely on, and value, 365.

@Scrivna - ross, you rock! merci buckets! :-)
