The CSC-35 challenge was to Get Off Auto! The challenge was to take picture with the following settings:
1) Camera Setting to Manual (M)
2) Focus on the Lens on Manual Focus (MF)
3) Auto ISO turned off - set your own ISO
4) Auto WB turned off - set your own WB
I recommended that folks start by using the Sunny-16 rule - f/16, ISO 200, 1/200th of a second shutter speed on a bright, sunny day as the base, and then learn to tweak the exposure manually.
I thought people were going to kill me - some have said that this was the hardest challenge they have done here on the site. My goal was to get people to move away from the pre-sets and start to learn how to control their camera so they get the shot THEY want, not the shot the camera thinks is best. I'm very happy to present to you the six finalists (in no particular order), all of which took the challenge to heart and created some fantastic shots using only manual settings. I evaluated the shots based on the Sunny-16 rule, overall exposure and composition.
Please VOTE by replying with the number of your favorite CSC-35 entry. Voting starts now and will run through Saturday the 9th. The winner will be announced on Sunday, November 10th.
Here are the shots, in no particular order. PLEASE VOTE! If you looked at this post, you are qualified to vote!
@thomastoth Thomas I didn't get around to posting my manual exp/focus but I did play around with it and found it very helpful. This was the most useful challenge on here for novices like myself and I just want to thank you for that.
@happysnapper65 Thank you very much. I was a little nervous about it, but switching to Manual really helped me grow as a photographer. I'm glad you enjoyed it and learned from it. :)
