Fab take on his work! I was introduced to him some 20 or so years ago because the company I was employed by at the time displayed a lot of his work around the premises. I was hooked too.
great take on his work - I've taught art using his work and love it. You can go off peacocks, we had a pair in the quad at work, and they are noisy and display a lot.
@shannejw I was so excited the exhibition is nearby and was inexpensive to get in. I was equally excited to see my first peacock display, but boy they were noisy @fbailey so very clever and mostly woodcuts, I thought he used pen and ink!
@fbailey I knew it was woodcuts - I have book of his work, have had for ages, haven't seen much in real life. It goes well with tessellation and I had a student pass entry level art with a photography project based on Escher as his best unit of the three he submitted (he had to submit three projects, another was a modroc mask and I can't remember which of the other units we did we submitted). He had a shot a bit like this with my crystal ball as one of the required photos.
@shannejw Also v interesting! The one picture I coveted but didn't get a print of was called Three Worlds I think - above, on the surface and below a fish pond. Loved that print! What is a modroc mask? I'm getting on a bit and not up with this expression!
@fbailey it's a way of using plaster of Paris strips as a modelling material - we made the masks on to their faces, covering them with vaseline first. I like three worlds, it's one you can sometimes create with photography. The other one is the skull in the eye - but with a selfie instead of a skull.
@randystreat It was a camera in the exhibition! @fbailey I think i learn something a week! @shannejw the skull i the eye was a surprise! @jacqbb it was a selfie camera in the exhibition
I only discovered Escher through 365 and would love to see an exhibition of his work. There is always something to learn from this amazing community :)
@merrelyn it was something I REALLY wanted to do, Dave less keen. We left after two hours!!! @salza the selfie camera was so clever to replicate his one @robz we could photograph any of his works too ( over200 on display!) @momamo one of us is from a TV screen, took loads to get this one half decent shot not showing phone!!

@koalagardens it's the best exhibition I've been to in ages
@mittens thank you so much
