I've Entered The RAW Zone

I've had my camera for 2 years, have never got my lap-top to read RAW files and as I don't do LR or PS have never worried too much.

I now need to use RAW for the photography course I'm doing, so downloaded somethhing from Microsoft, clicked the RAW button on the camera and it seems to have worked.

This has been etsooi-ed to death in Topaz and PhotoscapeX, and - oh look- the white isn't white!! I forgot to reset the WB from cloudy. Will I ever get the hang of this photography with the settings off auto??
yes, you will. you seem to have the patience (unlike moi) and you have him to support you with this photography thing. you're already way ahead of me with this topaz and something else. so there.

what i like about this photo is the consistency of the background colour with the one in the reflection; i just wish the top had a bit more space. but that's just me. and aces!

Personally, i like the background color. I also like the whole photo. Wonderful details and vibrant colors on the flowers.

Such vibrant colours. Lovely simple composition and set up.
One of the nice things about shooting RAW is that you can fix the white balance if you have forgotten to change the setting. Like Vikki I would also have liked a tad more space above the flowers.

oh you will just never want to go back once you play raw a few times - beautiful image :)

You are bravely entering uncharted waters Jackie! Love the density of the colour and the reflections

wonderfully done! good luck with the raw images - i like all the flexibility it gives. the detail in the roses is lovely

I like this a lot too. I like the gentle shading of the petals and I think the grayish background is a softer finish than a white-white background.

I like this a lot! Photography is subjective & no one can argue that your background should be white if you say it was meant to be as it is! Don’t let on that it’s not what you wanted & do what you should have done next time 😉😉

@carole_sandford :)
@randystreat thank you
@pistache I'm sure I willl learn more on my course, I have realised it's so much a computer as a camera I'm using!!
@365anne the course I'm on is really good, lots of uncharted waters!
@koalagardens really?? Yet to be convinced!

Beautiful!! Raw files are fun, there is so much you can do by pushing around pixels!! Learn Lightroom or Photoshop will help!

@photographycrazy be interested on your opinion of second oneplease?

So interesting Jackie - did you find the editing and its results much different?
October 14th, 2019
@robz no I didn't!!

I've starting RAW about 3 years ago thanks to a friend singing its praising and haven't looked back since. I feel I have a lot more flexibility with my post-processing, especially when I'm forced to shoot in low light situations and I can save the image much more easily if I've underexposed. The only bugger is the file sizes! I'm gonna have to get a larger harddrive soon!

In any case, love this shot with it's vibrant color and awesome reflection!!

A stunning image and wonderful reflection. I started RAW about a month ago and find the post processing much more effective.
