I really struggle with rules of composition. Sort of OK with the Rule of Thirds and leading lines but the Golden Ratio and particularly the Fibonacci Spiral have me flumoxed. However I had a peruse through Google and a couple of books and went out today to get an Accidental Renaissance ( tha'ts so hard to spell!) for the Dogwood Challenge.
Think I've managed a Golden Ratio here- The Ship Inn is a square of bricks and the white building with the phone camera guy is half the width of the square.
i find it easiest to use the crop overlays in photoshop , maybe shoot a bit wider and crop in post , i havent tried to see them while shooting , clever if you did here,.
@shannejw I used that BuzzFeed link before you uploaded it to the Dogwood thread. Gimp still broken on laptop, going to remove and reinstall. @randystreat it was fun to accidentally plan!!
Golden Ratio and Fibonacci thingummy bamboozle me too - no matter how much I read/watch about it.
@joansmor it's rule of thirds with attitude!
@4rky yup!!
@grammyn I was quite pleased thanks Katy
@jacqbb I looked at yours and then had another look at the ones I took today Nd made this one sort of work. Thank you
I tend to use the crop tool as well to check. GIMP has a golden ratio option as well as the thirds that divides the grid into 9 squares. I found this article to explain the accidental renaissance effect - https://www.buzzfeed.com/lynzybilling/19-photos-that-accidentally-look-like-renaissance-art
