Don't know this grim Grimm's 'fairy tale'? Here's a brief synopsis. Dad is tricked into giving his daughter to the devil. Dad hacks off daughter's hands so the devil cannot tie her up and drag her away. Daughter's goodness saves her and she marries a King.(naturally enough!) The devil is by now a bit angry and makes the King believe his daughter is evil, but she escapes his anger. At last (!) the King finds his daughter, guarded by angels, her hands having (magically!) grown back.
I follow a photographer called Elena Paraskeva and she does amazing fantasy portraits that involve red cord, so I was influenced by her style.
I have never heard the story but I think you’ve done a remarkable job of re-creating it in this photo! This sounds like an interesting challenge then I might want to give a try. I’m really impressed with your lighting
A fantastic photo. I like the contrasts - black and white and red. The absence of hands is quite morbid, so I'm glad to learn the princess gets them back. I've not heard of this story either.
Oh the lengths (of red chord) you go to inspire us all :) Hadn't heard that particular Grimm story, but I haven't read Grimm for ages. I have come across Elena Paraskeva (not on the street though) and she has done some interesting stuff; not sure that eating fruit & veg will be the same again...!!!
Thank you all! So long as I didn't cause offence with this 'armless portrait. I've done another version...... Be interested in your views on that.
