A three-day weekend (Victoria Day on Monday) and beautiful weather is all a neighborhood needs to break out a yard sale. I went with the idea of getting local colour for my pictures, but parted with a whole $5 and bought 6 items. I even got free books!
I asked Billy to help me come up with a creative title tonight, and he hit the nail on the head. This is The Bluenose Lodge, and the name comes from the name of the ship, built in Lunenburg, the pride of Nova Scotia and all of Canada. It had an undefeated history in races against other schooners and now decorates Canadian dimes and postage stamps. The name, Bluenose, shows up frequently around this seaside town.
Tonight, Suzie posted another Lunenburg picture, and I added some information in my comment to her. http://365project.org/stownsend/travels/2010-05-22 Her "Boatbuilder's Cottage" sits just across the street and a few doors down from The Bluenose Lodge.
Louise, I think I remember this. Is it near the Knot Pub? And near where the back bay trail comes in? (or starts depending on your direction) What a lovely way to spend your day.
Louise, no i haven't abandoned Shutterfly. I only use it for posting pictures as followups or explanations of pics I put up on 365. I just used it for that purpose the past two days, to show a larger picture of my piece of wood and some cottonwood tree seeds for Chris.
I love yard sailing!! You can stumble upon so many great finds!!! We don't have yard sales in Bulgaria, so the first time I went to some it was like the coolest thing ever! A perfect way to combine some walking with some bargain shopping! :-) Lovely photo, Louise!
P.S. I am so happy you enjoyed the Sunscreen video! My grandma is 82, and she's pretty short, but she's young at heart! I love her so much! You remind me very much of her, always staying busy and having a positive outlook on life! So glad I met you on 365!
Yes we are all proud of the Bluenose and their undefeated history. i didn't know it was built in Lunenburg . hurray for a long weekend and the weather is holding out. it was suppose to rain today but we had nothing but sunshine and the forecast is for up to 30 degrees next week.
Now to all the fake statues of your lady - Statue of Liberty - it seems a great deal of you have never seen the original statue.so i went and googled it and uploaded it today. so if you like to see it
it is on the home page and in my calendar. wishing you and Ken a nice Victoria Day weekend.
--- Re your comments: Yeah, there are a lot of secretive people here. Lots of people that keep to themselves. I do suppose that I am like that at times, but I try to break the mould. --
Great perspective on this picture. It's framed perfectly.
Louise, I just finished reading your delightful notes!!! I can't believe you LOVE Bill Bryson, too!!! I've read almost all of his books, currently I am enjoying his travels in Australia. You are right - he has an amazing sense of humor and his stories are always full of interesting facts! Our trip was really spintaneous - having no work for a couple of days, my husband took up on the idea (inspired by Bills' lovely book) and we set sail! Gas was considerably cheaper back then, he drove during the day and we made stops for the night at some hotel. Lots of time was spent on the highway and in the truck, but I got to see almost half of the USA - it really broadened my horizons! Santa Fe was a delightful place to visit, and Sedona - simply breathtaking! The Canyon was our final destination and we were in awe! Didn't have time to make the hike to the bottom (I don't know if I woould have handled it, too), but the view from the top was stunning! We would love to take my mother and father-in law there soon - Grand Canyon is a must see for sure!
I'll take a look at your yard sailing pictures tomorrow - the bed is calling my name, too! :-) It does sound like a cultural event In Lunenberg - cookies and coffee is something you are not going to get for free around here! I know that you are a lot younger than my granny, but I think you both share the same happy and sunny personality. She's been a primary school teacher her whole life, and when she had her 80th birthday most people who knew her thought she was turning 60! So young at heart, can also mean phisycally young, too :-))
Good night and greetings to the The Sunday Morning Breakfast Club tomorrow ;-)) I am really enjoying your Lunenburg pictures and stories!! :-))
Louise, left a pretty lenghy comment, too, but I had to come back after seeing Suzie's picture! Lunenburg is so BEAUTIFUL!!! What an amazing place!! The colorful houses, the architecture, the fog - out of this world! You and Ken have picked a gorgeous summer spot!! Looking forward to more Nova Scotia images! :-)
Yet another great example of your beautiful neighbourhood! I love what yard sales do... they bring people out of the woodwork, pool the community together, get everyone out into the sun, chatting, while the kids play together some distance away. And then there are the wonderful and interesting items you can find!
To think the carriages traverse your street so often, one would think they'd have their own lane on the road. :D
It's as if you live in the most perfect place. I have to say I didn't really know much about Nova Scotia before but now...I think it must be a little slice of heaven. I'm really enjoying all of your photos.
Louise! I love your last few photos! The series is like an advert for Nova Scotia! It looks like you are having a pretty darn nice time too. : ] PS - Did you accept Dill's request for summer lodging at your home?
Hi Louise. Glad you like my profile pic .. I wanted it to say something about me, and I ride a fair bit :-) Thanks for being such an encourager and so positive. It is great. Do you also call yard sales "garage sales" - that is what we call them in Aus.
i love where u are right now so interesting . love seeing ur photos ..
and because u asked ... I WON I WON I WON , im so shocked that i did , i was up against some truely talented photographers and couldnt beleive it when i got into the top 5 .. but to take it all the way home has totally left me speechless !!! im wrapped !!!!
i always enjoy going to yard sales, sometimes i planned to buy just a couple of things but always end up with a whole boot of items! have a wonderful long weekend!
Hi Louise. yes i uploaded a picture of the Statue of Liberty. it was on the homepage. but since i used a day in one of my albums instead of the the regular 365 (already had a picture in for that day) you will find it in my sunrise/sunset album number 3.. i know it does not belong in there and i will erase later
so you changed your name, is Ken taking photos now too ?? sorry i have not been able to keep up with everybody. and YES my son is growing way too fast...highschool next year!! and i wish he would let me take his photo more, or just be more cooperative about it. ;)
I just love getting to see your day to day life up there! So much fun! I am still working to try and identify the flowers I captured yesterday. I posted a ton of pictures again last night so hopefully I did not annoy anyone. I posted my daily shot along with a shot for today in my 365 album and then 6 or 7 photos of detail shots in my Naturally album and A Closer Look album starting on 5/19 since I can't post more than a week into the future in my other albums. A bit annoying but I am using the albums in a way that was probably not planned for! LOL There was just too much to not share! I think I posted 45 pictures to Facebook last night and now I need to get them uploaded to Shutterfly but I will start that tonight before I go to bed since there were almost 300 pictures. It is going to take forever! LOL
He's cutting square steel tubing to build gates for his mom's, to go with the block wall that we're building. I'll post a picture today of my son welding with his TIG welder (no sparks).
this looks like a fun time! i've been so busy and missed keeping up with your photos... thank you for the sweet comments on mine and i'm excited to have some free time and be back more. hope you are doing wonderfully, i'm sure you are! :)
The beauty and variety of the architecture there is tempting me to put it on my list of "must see" places! BTW, you are right--I really do love my bungalow, and only ever refer to it as a "hovel" when something about it frustrates me. Today I'll tell it I'm sorry. :)
Hi Louise. yes i am but as you can see i don't get too far in the other too just not enough hours in the day. when you have the time sometimes are you going to look at some of those pictures??
are you enjoying the weekend. the forecasted rain hasn't shown up yet.
Another lovely picture and peek into LunEnburg life, seems just idyllic! Thanks for your comments on my page, as you get to know me better you'll realise I'm a bit of a cheeky & playful one! ;-)))
What a great looking place to go to a yard sale!! We hunted last weekend for some barn sales but couldn't find any. The weather wasn't the greatest.
Thanks for the add and the comment on my furkid Rosco's urn. He was a very special boy. Our new furkid has been here 4 1/2 years and while he will never be normal, he's part of the family now and we love him.
Your comments about my photo and my husband were wonderful to read! I keep tellin him that these memories with our kids are too priceless and to stop avoiding the camera. All of this gushing over him is definitely helping! I love this photo. It looks like you captured s marvelous day. Xoxo
Ha! Love the title. Yes, good on ya', Billy! BTW - I would have been salivating mightily over those second-hand treasures. Problem is...we're now in the panic mode of trying to pack up the house for our move, so I would have been killed if I had brought MORE "stuff" into our house. :-)
By the way, I'm in the Philippines right now, and it's so hot here during the months of April and May :) Thank you for your comments on my photo.
