I thought of our 365 friend, Theresa, who's been photographing the emergence of her poppy. There's quite an old lady who lives here, and she tends the most beautiful gardens around her house. I look forward to this poppy bed every summer! It's along our walking path and across the road from the Back Bay.
Again today, I got several possible 365 choices, but I put them and a record of our walk here http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1224 There's also a picture of another of our neighbors, Stephanie who lives on the street directly behind us. She's off to enjoy the company of family and friends in England & Scotland.
Thanks to those of you who took a look at my album. I love this picturesque corner of Canada & it's a pleasure to share more of it with you all.
Wow, these flowers are so colorful! But I think the part that I like best are the little fuzzies. Are they unopened buds? Well, whatever they are, they add a great look to the photo.
What an incredible display of color! I'm sure that these lovely gems add to the charm of the neighborhood! This older woman certainly knows her stuff by the looks of it! Gorgeous photo
What a great capture of the poppies! Love the house in the background too! I had a look at your album boy I sure would have had trouble picking a 365 pic from those they are all great. I love the walk you take along the water it reminds me a little of dallas road here. Sure seems like you are savoring each moment good reminder for us all to do just that! :)
OoooOooOoOoO! Loving those poppies and the pop of the vintage home in the background! :) I love seeing all of your photos and love your other site too to see more of this lovely place. Wish I could go walking with you guys! :)
*hehehe our titles are similar aren't they...hehehe*
This is fabulous Louise! Poppies are one of my favourites. Thank you for your very generous comments about my 'bluebell' photo. Before I came here I had no idea I would ever get a picture like that. It is the inspiration from everyone here that has helped me. All done on my point and shoot!
For some reason the hairy poppy buds always remind me of some form of alien pods. :) I checked out your photos and the shot with the scallops forced me to Google it since I have never seen a scallop that wasn't cooked and served on my dinner plate. I learned (saw) something new today!
Keep them coming Louise. You're getting some great shots.
first, i love all of your photos, i think you have quite an eye ~ i just don't always have the time to catch up to everyone's images... second, i love red in photos, it is always an eye catcher, third ~ again i love the perspective, and i absolutely love the home peaking thru! :)
I like to colors and focus in this picture. As for my turtle picture - I usually get out to take pictures of a snapping turtle but this one looked like she was digging to lay her eggs.
wow Louise, the flowers look 3D! i would not be surprised if you took a lot of photos of these beauty around you, i would have done the same! keep enjoying your summer there!
"Poppies...to make you sleep...!" I always think of Dorothy falling asleep in the enormous field of poppies in The Wizard of Oz! I adore the color--wish I had even a little bit of a green thumb, we would have our own field of poppies! Love it!!
Gorgeous photo...the colors, perspective and the cute little house. So appropriate for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, as well.
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”
beautiful composition, Louise. i love the flowers in the forgeround and the house peeking through them. the colors are gorgeous...what have you been up to recently? i've said before that i live vicariously through the photos of the 365ers since i can't travel that much because of the.but someday, i'll be able to document my travels as well =)
Poppies are truly a beauty with such a short lifespan ! I love them.
Louise I finally have sent the order in for prints so next week I will be mailing you the print.Sorry it has taken a bit of time.
I LOVE popies, Louise!!! Gorgeous colors!! When we were little we used to open the closed buds, and pull the poppie out - like a dress of a ballerina! :-)
Thank you so much for your comment! We are very excited about the house and looking forward to rennovating it! I'll definitely be posting more photos soon! :-))
*first of all I had to come back by just to admire this shot again*
Second, THANK YOU so much for the recipe inspiration!! Louise you are so soooo sweet to send that to me. I will run it by the husband, he is so picky, but if he isn't up for trying it out I'm baking this when I visit my parents. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and I'll blog about it and post pictures when I do bake it. :) I should be visiting my parents sometime late June so I'll keep ya in the loop. Thanks again for your sweetness!!! :)
I love the composition of this shot with the house visible in the background. The poppies are so vibrant, and I can't get over how many buds are still unopened.
As usual, you got some beautiful photos today, but this is by far my favorite out of the batch.
Yes, we've had great weather but it isn't warm... high of thirteen degrees Celsius today. It was about nine degrees when I took the photograph of the earrings. Lovely to get your comment now just before bedtime!
Very pretty as a picture, too. I personally would have blurred out the background a bit more with a more open aperture (lower f-stop number), but you really can't beat the flowers and the fuzzy buds!
I wonder if these beautiful flowers can be planted here in the Philippines. I can't stop saying this, "I want these in our front yard." lolz...
Regarding the picture I posted with the blurry edges, I'd like to say thank you for your comment on that, I took the pic while I was in the car that's why you don't see a lot of shade there.
Actually, it wasn't homemade bread but some storebought stuff I keep on hand for my husband's sandwiches (he prefers that for sandwiches if you can believe that!). I've been wanting to make some rye bread, but the store near me doesn't carry rye flour, so I have to wait until I trek to another store and get some.
Wow that's so impressive! Love these poppy flowers.
Thanks Louise for the sweet comments about my "Painting" picture. I passed your message on to my m-in-l, wishing success for bazaar. She was touched and expressed gratitude to you, thank you!
I'm sure I will say the same thing that many above me have said -- I absolutely LOVE the composition of this photo and love the way the color pops! Allow me to be the 10th person to *fave*... :)
I did miss this note, Louise and am ever thankful that you prompted me to find this. What a stunning photo...and it warms my heart--poppies and me mention in the photo. Have to fav. My live has been filled with lots of stress lately---end of the year to do's at school, some difficult situations with children that I need to protect, support and care for---and a busy family life that I adore---and do all I can to save energy for after my days of caring for children and staff in the other part of my life. I miss floating around on 365...and hope to squeeze this in soon as things calm down. So...long story...but this is why I am so glad you sent me a note on my poppy photo.
This is so pretty and aparently everyone else agrees, I had to scroll down quite far to type in my comment. Gorgeous shot, I love how the flowers are all leaning one way. The color just pops right out and grabs you.
I enjoyed this picture on the popular page and didn't realize i hadn't commented. I love poppies. Remember when they were handed our for a donation on veterans day? This is a beautiful composition with the bold poppies in the front and the lovely home in the background. Much more than just a landscape or just a house.
Wow! I saw this on the top 20 for this week. (I need to catch up on your album since I just recently found your photos.)
This is gorgeous. I love the color and perspective.
And, thank you for a totally cat-less photo! 8D

I noticed that your walk on the backbay is on a road. When I did it I was on a dirt trail. Is it the same place?
