After our "Sunday Morning Breakfast Club", Ken and I took a meandering drive toward home. Around here, there are few straight roads as we have so many peninsulas and a lot of shore line past bays, inlets and coves. Before we'd reached home, we decided to "do the Nova Scotia thing" and call in on John & Mike http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-05-24 We found Mike about to leave to help Johnny show friends around their rental cottage they're in the process of renovating. Out on Feltzen South, the homes face across the water to a Lunenburg view.
Johnny has been asking me to take some pictures in this little harbor near there in the hope of having some pictures to put in the cottage, so we stopped by when we left. May 31st is the last day of lobster fishing, and this marina will soon have many more boats, Now if I can just get rid of those phone poles...
im liking the textures in this shot , so much to look at !!! cant get bord with this shot .. im going to stop talking so i can take another look lol great shot !!
yes im going to print my last photo , we havent got a good one of us in a frame so im thinking thats it .. thanx for popping by .. and i love that u thought of ur daughter and me while looking at the ashlea house lol
Great shot, Louise! I love all the different colors and textures in it. I am embarrassingly far behind with my own pictures and more importantly, with looking at and commenting on other people's pictures, but I am hoping to get caught up tomorrow. I can see just from your thumbnails that you have been up to some interesting things lately and I want to learn all about it. :) PS. I saw your note about Friday... we girls from the office don't get to do it every Friday- just every once in a while, but this Friday was one of those days! (This time it was just me and Chimom, but we had a nice time unwinding and enjoying a little sangria).
i like this louise...i've been thinking of carrying a chain saw for phone poles myself! you were close on my picture....the timer and i just balanced my camera on the railing, then ran up the ladder. one of the advantages of an inexpensive (cheap) camera.
What an interesting photo Louise, love the textures in the lobster traps and the colours of the boats in the background. Thanks for your comments before, gave me a giggle...
Very nice photo Louise! A little bit of photoshoping and the poles could vanish...but I think they look just fine in the photo.I wouldn't change a thing. Your photos always look wonderful!
Of course I'd say it - it's the truth! :) It's not necessarily about angles, it's about seeing the beauty in things and capturing it. I'm not entirely sure if shooting straight in the sun ruins cameras, but some people say it might. I still as of yet have to take a closeup of fire, I want to though: I really like fire.
love those lobster traps ... the colors, the lines, the textures! see what you mean about the poles! LOL! might try cropping so that you just have the traps, for an entirely different picture ...
BTW, I have FINALLY captured a shot of another type of squirrel [ same family, different genus - just for you! the marmot! go have a look!
Like that sort of view.... getting rid of the phone poles is easy! I use "paint" for it... removed a huge light pole and big metal box from in front of our church picture! Makes a big difference. Thanks for your comments as usual.... love getting up and checking who had been around while I've been asleep. The quality of Chinese food varies a great deal. Some restaurants appear to make concessions to the taste buds of the community and lose some of the authentic flavours. The one I use most is very good but slightly expensive. I have another good one a little further from home and considerably cheaper. Just found a great Indian carry out restaurant two days ago... though too far to use often.
I would love to go to Nova Scotia, its in my top ten - one day! I like how this photo is almost divided into 3 layers, makes you really spend the time looking at it.
p.s many thanks for the tips at looking at profit pics!
I really like this shot. It really captures the maritime feel. I think I agree with you that I would have removed the poles and wires. Not sure what editing software you use but most have some method for doing it. I always hate to critique someone's pic because not many people really do on this site, and I hope you don't mind, but the other thing i would have done is straighten the horizon. :-)
the phone poles add character to this photo! i love those colourful boats in the background, too...
it's great to know you're having such a wonderful time everyday...
Thanks for your recent comments on my photos. After I posted my neglected house I saw your magnificent photo of the B&B. I followed your link and it looks like a great place to stay.
I kind of like the phone poles. It's a just the touch to show the area is connected but not too much. Last day of lobster fishing? What do they fish for when lobster season has ended?
Thanks for the info. on the fisherman. When I lived on the Cape everything is seasonal - fishing, restaurants, general employment (but not the Courthouse!)
Because of you, I am determined to visit this area. Can I tell you that I had a jolt of excitement when I saw that your poppy photo and mine were smack dab next to each other on the popular page for a moment in time! What an honor for me to be near you this way!
Oh Louise! How am I missing so many of everyone's shots! Feeling so behind!! :) I love everything that you are showing us. I feel like I'm walking around with you. Everything is just beautiful.
Love the bright colored boats and all the texture in the foreground. I think the telephone poles work just fine.
Really enjoying your commentary and gorgeous pictures. Thanks for my mini-break each time I visit your page. :)
this is very interesting shot. of course i love the textures and the sort of run down/broken stuffs :)) and your story is always interesting, i learned a lot just from your everyday photo! I have been busy and a little stressed at work, so not spending as much time as I would love to on 365, but i do what i can, my goal is at least still be able to post a picture everyday!
Hey Louise, thanks so much for your comments and uploading the inside of the church for us. It is so so beautiful, really really gorgeous! I am amazed, I can see how much work it took to make it so beautiful on the inside as well!
Thanks for showing us more of Lunenburg, I think we all are going to go and visit there some time, it's so lovely!!!
Lovely composition, love the fishing village scenes & just the word lobster makes my tummy rumble! The telephone poles keep it "real" & as ypu know we have them right outside our little house & they can look quite interesting!
Well, I am a lobster trap person myself! So I love those lobster traps! They add so much interest and character to your picture. I have no idea where this is but it sure is beautiful and another reason for us to go back again. We were there last August - did I mention that? Can't stay away!
Hi Louise . . . thanks for commenting on my photos ; ) I responded on each and answered your questions . . . Not sure how you might get notified, so I thought I would do that here. I'm really enjoying your photos of Nova Scotia . . . looks like a beautiful place to visit. Look forward to seeing more.
Love the colorful boats as opposed to the rundown traps. Also loving your words like..."meandering"..."visiting"...and stopping to take photos....ahhh, what I wouldn't give for a bit of that stuff right about now. Life's gotten pretty hectic these past two days. Deb's father passed away suddenly yesterday morning, so it has been pretty stressful around our household. I think it was John Lennon who said, “Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans”. Pretty much sums it up, eh? Well, I'm sure things will work themselves out.
Oh, and wanted to let you know that I also saw Heather (and met Tina) on Saturday. Stopped by the shop to give Heather some goodies I found while packing up that I though she might like. Love their store!! ;-)
Your photos always make me a touch homesick, but definately moreso with this one. The shore was always my favorite place to go, and many a wonderfully-peaceful day were spent sitting on the pier watching the boats come and go...
I have a temporary fix to my computer woes and have caught back up (for now, anyway :p)
Lovely. Wonderful composition and the colors are so perfect. You are taking some incredible shots in your beautiful second home, Louise. Thank you for your lovely comments on my new shot. It's so nice to be in such a warm, welcoming group.
This is beautifully composed, Louise. I love the boats (they are boats, right?) of different colors at the background and the vairety of textures on the pile of beautiful garbage =) (would've been a great one for that theme)
Louise this is a beautiful picture, very artistic. Don't worry about the poles, I hadn't even noticed them and well, they are part of the scene. I love the distance, the weave of the lobster pots and the little boats in the background. What sights you are seeing. You must have wonderful dreams..:-)
Playing a little catchup from the long weekend. Love this shot. I was hoping you were going to say these were Scallop traps :). Anyways, removing things like wires is the easy part, framing and capturing the photo is the harder part. I use a cloning stamp in Photoshop for this kind of work and I notice that Adobe is making some pretty nice strides in making this easier. Not sure if this technology will trickle down to the more consumer grade products, but check this out if you have a minute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtQs-oS92xc
Also, thanks for your recent comments too Louise. Yes, Memorial Day was well represented here. I had a memorable experience on Monday and couldn't decide which photo I wanted to post up. I narrowed it down to 3. I don't use Flickr, PIcassa, etc, but posted them here if you want to take a look: http://www.lovekieran.com/?p=1434. Thanks again!
A great shot Louise. It reminds me of a spot on the harbour at Pt Douglas in North Queensland. The Pt Douglas Yacht Club is a very rustic old building on the edge of town, manned by local members (also quite rustic, but charming) and opens limited hours. We dragged our chairs down to the waters edge to sit in the sun and enjoy a beer and bowl of fries. You don't need to be a member, just show up with drivers license or passport to show you are from out of town and they let you in.
Beautiful just like it is. Could be a scene near my old home in Maine... and makes me a little home sick for the ocean. Mmmm... and would love some lobster too. :)
I thought I had commented on this one. I really like the pots and the wires they complete the photo . You have so many interesting places that you have taken photos of and share with us, I love coming to your page Louise.

Makes me want to go out east now
