Reprise: They're Gonna Put Me in the Movies...

I believe I've written in the past that Lunenburg is a popular place for making movies. We frequently get notices in the mailbox that a crew will be in town & where they'll be filming. Last summer I watched a big production from my front window in the park across the street; it's a familiar sight locally.

So today, when I was looking for a landmark in town to photograph, Ken mentioned that he'd seen a movie crew in the park again yesterday. I expressed regret at a missed opportunity, but he said he knew where they were filming today. We went over at noon, and to my delight, there was a hot set. Emboldened by 365 and the need for a daily photo, I went up to a stage hand (is that the correct word?) and asked if I'd be allowed to take a picture. Three men in unison told me to go right ahead! Yippee! I took three pictures & then thought to ask what movie was being filmed. The nice man gave me a web site, and this is the sum total of what I found about "Cloudburst", the movie being filmed...it's obviously a comedy...

"A lesbian couple escape from their nursing home and head up to Canada to get married. Along the way, they pick up a young, male hitchhiker.

Actors: Kristin Booth Olympia Dukakis Brenda Fricker

Director(s):Thom Fitzgerald"

Well, quite happy with what I'd captured, imagine my delight when, this evening, as we drove to the golf course for supper, we came upon another set along the water's edge. A man came to our window & said they were filming, but to drive slowly past. Again, I asked if I could take some pictures and he gave me the go ahead (quite cheerily), so I got out of the car and walked the distance, shooting several pictures!

In this one, you can clearly see Brenda Fricker in the front seat of the truck. In the background, that's Lunenburg's beautiful waterfront. My other pictures from today are here http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1928

I think I may take you to the movies again tomorrow...I'm already planning ahead. This sort of thing never happens to me in California!
Wow! I can't imagine this not happening in California! You'd think it would. Still, this seems like such an adventure. It's happened around here a few times...Have fun! I'll go look at your other pictures now.
June 19th, 2010
Oh, this certainly happens in California...I just seldom come across it, and I'd never dream of walking up to a set and asking for pictures there! I was really amazed at how nice the workers were to me today...
June 19th, 2010
awesome! I wanted to be an actor before, that was when I was a kid! nice photo Louise!
June 19th, 2010
Wow,how exciting. You have all the fun Louise! I'll be sure to keep my eye out for when the film is released.
June 19th, 2010
what an amazing thing to witness! when i was in high school, the movie "election" was filmed at my high school. it was amazing! my color guard got to meet reese witherspoon!! it always amazes me how different the scenes actually look in the finished product versus when they are shooting! you'll have to compare when it comes out!
June 19th, 2010
Exciting! There's always a film crew out and about in Vancouver, perhaps one day they'll let me be in a film!
June 19th, 2010
Oh, how cool! I see movie sets all the time around NYC, but I'm always too shy to ask if I can take photos. You got some really great shots to share with us, so I'm glad you're not shy like me!

My old office was actually the set for two TV shows... the Lipstick Jungle pilot was shot partially in my office, and there was a scene in some other show (I forget which one) where they used our office as well. But I didn't even think to bring a camera with me! Maybe next time I see a scene being filmed, I'll summon up some of your courage and try for a few shots.
June 19th, 2010
How fun for you!!! Looking forward to seeing what you catch tomorrow!
June 19th, 2010
HC
How fun!
June 19th, 2010
What a fun filled day it sounds like you had! I don't know if I would have been brave enough or confident enough to go upto someone filming a movie and ask to snap some shots, so kudos to you for even asking!! It certainly did pay off in the end. What a wonderful story of how your shot for the day came to be.
June 19th, 2010
This is so cool, Louise!! Movie scenes are always so exciting!! And it's great they let you take some photos! I remember one year they were shooting an American production in my university in Bulgaria - they had turned one of the lobbies into a Police department. Jean Claude Van Dame almost lives in the Hilton in Sofia, since he's making movie after movie there (mostly low-budget action films). Even Antonio Banderasshot a movie in Bulgaria! It was funny, because during his two-week stay he got an unexpected visit from his wife, Melanie Griffith, Jealousy (as the tabloids put it) made her fly all the way to our corner of the world ;-)) If nothing else, you get to hear a lot of behind the scenes rumours ;-)
Have a great weekend and I am looking forward to your photo tomorrow! ;-))
June 19th, 2010
Wow! What an awesome thing to come across. I'm glad they were so nice and let you take some photos.

This is so awesome Louise! You got some really great shots today. I've been able to observe some commericals that were made for the hospital that I work in. They had a crew come in from NY and LA. It was amazing to see how much work goes into the making of a 30 second spot. Since I work in Marketing, I was able to take photos while they were setting up the shots. It was so exciting. I've also been to a few sets while they were making movies in our area. They've made quite a few here and we also have a fairly decent Film Festival each year. I've been able to see Sandra Bullock, Robert Duvall, Cherry Jones, and Nicolas Cage in the last few years.. We live in horse country so it draws a lot of actors here. Sissy Spacek has lived here for a number of years now and Jessica Lang use to. I can't wait to see what you see tomorrow. Oh and also...Jack, Jetson, and Jordan were all in the company of Kodak and Murphy. It's only been a few years since they've passed. Sorry to ramble but I love this sorta thing : )

June 19th, 2010
Wow, how exciting! And how nice that the movie staff were so accomodating in terms of your photo taking. I am going to have to go see that movie when it comes out for sure, so I can see more of Lunenberg. :)

Great shot and an awesome opportunity. Glad it all worked out for you.

June 19th, 2010
FUN, FUN, FUN, Louise. It's fun to live vicariously with you! That's a great picture.
June 19th, 2010
pretty cool! Especially in the summer, Hamilton is constantly filming.

(A bit of hairspray the movie was shot here and my dance teacher was in the movie and actually had like a second on film. I make it a point to tell everyone when I watch the movie. Theres also a movie being shot on the waterfront here, and my mom said they were keeping the elephant at her work. Sadly they moved the elephant location and I havent seen him)

On the way home from downtown the other day, they were shooting a movie on the side streets, and there was a parking lot specifically for the crew. Next time I'll keep my eye out and take some pics while i pass it.
June 19th, 2010
Brenda Fricker is one of my fav actresses, she seems so nice too :-)

I love the title of your club, spot on, and would loved to have been a member!! Glad you had a nice memory and no-way are you as old as that!
June 19th, 2010
Cool, Louise! It sounds like you're in a hotspot! Join the Actors Guild now...
June 19th, 2010
Wow, that's a really neat story!
One of my friends got into a movie once (we're all theater kids, hehe). He was an 'extra', but we all went to the movies anyway!
As it turned out, despite all the hours and scenes they filmed with him in it, he was only onscreen for about .005 seconds- and it was only his butt.
We all had a laugh out of it, but he's actually auditioning for Breaking Dawn this summer, so, we'll see how it goes!
:D

Re;comment--2 seconds of fame then, I guess! Blurry or not! (:
June 20th, 2010
and I always enjoy your comments, Louise (:
June 20th, 2010
always nice to have a bit of dialogue rather than just a "great shot!"
June 20th, 2010
Louise, very exciting and interesting experience. I've never seen a movie being shot before. I need to put that on my bucket list and keep a lookout.
June 20th, 2010
I'm with several of my fellow 365ers: You oughta be in pictures!
June 20th, 2010
:") ...would you believe I'd probably go mute if the camera were turned on me? Hard to imagine, isn't it? hehe
June 20th, 2010
Sounds like we're ALL starstruck!
June 20th, 2010
I don't believe it!
June 20th, 2010
oh Louise, you are way too kind, i don't know anything about "photography" and "techniques" :) and you've seen my little P&S camera too :) but i'm not ashamed of admitting it. what I see is what you get (sometimes with a little help from free online editing tool doesn't hurt either). on another note, we are planing a trip to Canada this summer, but only a few cities along the coast line, too bad we on't stop by at Lunenburg, looks like such an interesting place from your photos! :))
June 20th, 2010
yes Louise, you know me too well :) i looked at Ellen's photo and i LOVE it, totally the kind of photo i would take! funny that before i started this project, i have never realized how much i love patterns, shadows, lines and curves! it does become my "style" or rather my choice of the subject. I take more than just one photos everyday but end up always tend to post the similar style of photos :) I have tried to "break" my own pattern this past week or so to take photos of other subjects that i normally wouldn't do, like people, flowers, and more color too. i actually am happy with what I got. at least my calendar won't be b&w all the time :)) oh, before i forgot, we are going to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec city.
June 20th, 2010
how fun!! I'm so surprised they were so easy going and willing to let you take photos. What a wonderful opportunity!
June 20th, 2010
yes i know, but they are all pretty close together :) we will be driving everywhere. I have a couple of old friends who live in Toronto, so that's why we go there first, and i love old European style architecture, so yes i know i will take tons of photos, and we plan to "splurge" by staying at Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec city, i guess we will have to eat McD through out the trip, hahaha!
June 20th, 2010
What fun!
June 20th, 2010
How very exciting!! That's great that they were happy for you to take photos, and that you were able to share with us too!
June 20th, 2010
Wow, great photos and how nice that they were fine with you taking photos of your own...now you have even helped them out by promoting the movie!
June 20th, 2010
This is another brilliant story Louise! Now you're out star gazing! Great photo too! A lot of filming takes place in west London, where I live & work especially as I'm often hanging around near BBC TV centre. I'll try to catch the guys in film, camera, action next time I see them! BTW the film sounds quite funny, some great actors there.
June 20th, 2010
How exciting! What a great capture - how nice that they were happy for you to take pictures. Various bits of Cambridge are used in film sets every now and then - they tend to be historical dramas, so there'll be an odd glimpse of a chap in the queue for a sandwich in Marks and Spencers, sporting a Victorian frock coat or doublet and hose!
June 20th, 2010
neat! that must be exciting
