Meet Anna Ludlow, a fiddler all her life, who provided a wonderful afternoon's entertainment in the bandstand across the street. Our friends, Enid & Gordon came over and the four of us joined the town's people and tourists to watch the show. Concerts are held every Sunday afternoon from mid-July to mid-September. What's a still photo of music without hearing her, so, if you're interested, here she is in concert a year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I87h4Hqgj8A
Next week is one of the big summer events in town, the 26th annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. For three days there'll be music in a number of venues around town, but from noon until 5 there'll be music in the park. I love being able to sit and watch the shows, or open a window and listen from our living room. Friends from Hawaii are arriving mid-week, so there'll be no shortage of entertainment, and I already know how much they love music!
oh wow! that's an awesome thing that your town does! I watched the video and she is brilliant on the fiddle. I admire her skills!
Sounds like some good old fun coming your way.
That's great, Louise! I can hardly wait for your pictures from the Festival. You just always have things going on there - how fun for you and your visitors!
I love the motion you were able to capture in her hand and the bow! Again, it sounds like you had a fun day with friends and have more fun to look forward to in the coming week!
yay! we both went to an outdoor music concert today! :) it's late and I need to go to bed, but just wanted to say howdy!! sorry it takes me so long to get back to you sometimes Louise! xoxo
This photo could be her next CD cover, it's such a nice portrait of her in action! I really liked playing the video, it gave me a sense of sitting beside you at the concert.
I love the fiddle and would love to have listened to this one. We go to a local barn where they have impromptu groups get together to make music. Pot luck is on the menu.
I know your friends from Hawaii are going to just love the music! Have fun!!
(Re: comment--I figured you seemed like somebody that enjoyed each moment!!) (:
You must have a constant stream of friends going through--too fun. Enjoy your company!!
Lunenburg sounds like and is such a picturesque place on top of all the entertainment you have mentioned over the last weeks and more to come who wouldn't want to spend a summer there... we were privileged to enjoy it with you through all of your lovely pictures and comments. thanks so much Louise.
Thanks for your comment. Yes Louise that cottage dates back at least 40 - 60 years and has been bought and sold a few times over..it came with a 100 acre parcel of land with the small stream running through it.over the last two years they already added a two storey to one side of the cottage and Hans will now add on to the old cottage part in order to enlarge the kitchen and add on a breakfast area with walkout to a future deck. it will unfortunately cover up a big boulder where they now have a small flat area which holds 2 garden chairs.. I think once it's done the way they like it... a home for their retirment ..it will be more of a modern structure and will unfortunately lose it's old country charm. as to your question yes all those items and a lot more were left behind over the years. the old telephone and all of those cameras old and so old were left behind. the only item i added by mistake to my collage was their daughter's harpe.(I thought at the time that it was old but no).
Great capture love the fiddle music, lookslike you're really enjoying the festival. We're very much enjoying our holiday & having a budy but fun seaside experience, a bit like you & Ken!
There is a pretty good Celtic Music scene in Chicago, and sometimes some of it drifts down here. Even though, I still miss the nights of dropping into any pub to hear someone playing, or stopping by someone's house to hear the music in the kitchen.
I just love the weekly concerts various towns and cities have during the summer. What a great way for up and coming musicians to get a little better known.
Great concert pic - love the motion blur of her bow hand - you can feel the energy of her playing.
Thanks for the comment on the cittern pic - there's a whole hotchpotch of clips on Youtube of people playing citterns - a lot of early music stuff and a lot of Irish. My Dave plays mainly English stuff. To get a flavour of what it sounds like - there's a chap originally from Northumbria (north-eastern England on borders with Scotland), although he's now over in the States, playing a similar style here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyZBdZZ8qCw
Ha ha - playing catch-up and just picked up your later comment! Yes that's the same instrument in the clip you found - I believe that particular guy is one of the most impressive players of the folkstyle cittern. What's nice about it is that it has that lovely jangliness (it's double-stringed which is what gives it that sound).
Sounds like some good old fun coming your way.
re my photo: sorry I pulled it before you could comment, but decided it needed a frame!
