A Day Traveling from Milan, Italy to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland (Train Station in Spiez)
Our Saturday began at the train station where our reservation was cancelled, so I waited with suitcases while the guys scrambled for new accommodations. It took four train changes to get us to our destination, but it was a beautiful ride, some of it alongside a mountain pass with a view to the valley far below. Most interesting was how immediately the style of the homes changed to Swiss chalets upon crossing the border, the mountains became high and craggy and there was plenty of snow on the ground. We didn’t arrive at our destination until after dark, so we knew we’d awake to a surprise location. Of course we’d seen pictures when we rented the apartment, and it sits nestled in a narrow valley with sheer rock walls climbing on two sides. (Of course I’m writing, having spent an afternoon out walking back into the valley; the natural beauty is more than awesome!)
Monday…we’re having a light rain…and we’re watching clouds drift across the valley floor, nearly outside our window. Ken & Billy walked into the village for food provisions, so we’re hunkered down for the afternoon, and maybe a game of Scrabble…
This shot from the train station is fabulous. I love the view of the snow covered mountains. It looks so picturesque. Can't wait to see some of your photos from Switzerland. A place I definitely want to visit sometime.
Lovely journey I bet it was really fun (if a little tiring with the delay) your location sounds wonderful ... your getting a little closer to the UK each day now ..lol.. Have fun you guys
Train being canceled and then 4 train rides and yet I hear no frustration in your words....a true world-traveler you are! How heavenly a game of scrabble sounds in a cozy chalet with a slight rain outside.....
Really neat perspective that so captures the European train station experience. I can feel the chill and the excitement of climbing aboard for another adventure. Sorry to hear about your delays, but I think that's all part of the adventure. :-)
seems i've fallen behind looking at my home page... what a lovely sight to great you! sorry you had so much problems getting there. but it looks like it was worth it!
