Since returning home in January, I've spent hours leafing through recipe books, trying new dishes and creating more varied dinners. More than preparing meals though, I've always loved to bake, and fresh bread from the oven is tasty and makes the kitchen smell good, too. We never finish a loaf of comparatively expensive store bought bread and I eventually throw it out. This, today, is Sour Dough Caraway Rye, and I suspect it won't be around for long.
Oh wow, I must say, growing up in PA Dutch country, I fondly remember the smell of home made bread baking in the oven, and there is nothing that fills the air with sweet aroma like home baked breads, And to cut a slice, still warm with butter, oh my, it doesn't get much better than that.
I don't think there's a homebaked bread that I don't like. My mom used to make bread and rolls and cinnamon rolls. I've kept up the tradition with cinnamon rolls. Your photo brings us up close enough to inhale the wonderful aroma of fresh bread. Thanks!
looks delicious! I just recently found a rye bread recipe that I like, but I'll have to try sourdough rye. Is this the family rye bread recipe that you once mentioned? I would love it if you would share that family recipe if it isn't a secret one (I understand those secret family recipes, I have a secret doughnut recipe from my mother-in-law that is from her aunt, and I am honored that she felt that she could share it with me).
@weshook I got this particuylar recipe off the net and, while quite good, it wasn't as excellent as my dad's recipe. I'm baking that tomorrow and will write it down and send it to you. It's really excellent, and I know you'd love it if you like a caraway rye combination (and no molasses in it).
I can almost taste that :)
