Land Ahoy! This morning we docked in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands off the coast of northern Africa. Ken and I love to visit zoos and wild-animal parks wherever we travel, so we chose without hesitation to visit Loro Parque, advertised to contain Europe's largest tunnel-surround aquarium as well as many animal shows. We had a spectacular time seeing an immense and beautiful penguin display, fabulous dolphin and Orca shows, their white tiger (that was purchased from a magician who thought to give him a better home) and the largest array of colorful parrots we've ever seen in spotlessly clean enclosures along palm lined walkways. This zoo had so much to recommend it, we enjoyed every sight and have fond memories.
Included in our trip to the park was an island tour that reminded us in so many ways of Oahu in Hawaii. We'd happily return here for a vacation as it was both beautiful and there seemed to be much to recommend it. Amidst their beautiful architecture, there's an opera house that's shaped as uniquely as the one in Sydney Australia. For having known little about this destination before arriving here, we learned a great deal and absolutely loved it!
