Cathedral in Arucas, Gran Canaria by Weezilou

Cathedral in Arucas, Gran Canaria

While touring this second island on our stop in the Canary Islands, I saw this gorgeous Gothic cathedral rising above the town of Arucas as we approached from a distance. While it looks exceedingly old, it was completed less than a hundred years ago.

A favorite memory of this small town was the fabulous public art by Julio Nieto lining the central walkway. I might have chosen to feature one of the statues if I could have chosen just one!
Wonderful Cathedral!

This is absolutely stunning. Were you inside? I don't know how you could resist if you were not.

@digitalrn You resist when the doors are locked! So we stopped for a beer instead after a lovely walk through the town center and public garden.

Sure is beautiful and dramatic. Amazing that it is so "young"!

Its a pretty sad sign of the times when church doors have to be locked. Beautiful building from the outside though.

@palusami Here, and during our travels in Italy last winter, we often found the churches closed during the afternoon hours. Friends traveling with us said they visited the interior earlier in the day on a different tour. Maybe they'll share their photos!

Beautiful spires. Very nice shot and the detail in this church is incredible. Hard to believe it is less than 100 years old.
