Well, that's stretching the truth a bit... The books I found are both large and heavy... You might say I poured over the books while it poured outside! I rummaged through the bookshelf, recalling that I'd purchased a number of very old newspaper compilations from the early 1800s several years ago. They make fascinating reading, full of tidbits of history, told as it was unfolding on that day. Did you know that newspapers long ago were printed on cotton-fiber paper which is why they've come down through the years in such good condition? My "Oct 1, 2011" newspaper doesn't stand a chance of being perused again in another one hundred and eighty-five years. Wouldn't the owner of that book have marveled that it might be read again all these years later? Wouldn't he have had a sense of wonder at how times have changed?
...can we even imagine what the news will look like 185 years down the road...
What a wonderful way to spend a lovely, rainy Sunday! It amazes me how far we've come in the past 30 years...I wonder at the amazement someone from 1826 might experience at today's world.
I love your commentary - it is a shame that the newspapers aren't using better paper - and an even bigger shame that printed media is becoming so much less common.
@mommablogsalot Odd to consider that 100 years from now someone will peruse this book again, yet today's paper will be mulch. Personally, I like being able to hold printed paper in my hands...and anymore it feels like something quite special!

We would have a hard time coping in those days if we were sent back :)
