Small Town, Big Art by Weezilou

Small Town, Big Art

We stopped at the grocery on our way home and there was a big change taking place! The long, plain wall was being converted into a mural depicting the Lunenburg waterfront and featuring The Bluenose II under sail. Ken went shopping... I went to talk to the artist, Peter Matyas. The work was just finishing completion and it had taken two days. He said he'd painted most of the murals around town and invited me to his gallery for a glass of wine tomorrow. I took four photos that I really liked...I think I'll get prints to take to him when we stop in.

Of these two pictures, I like the close up where you can see his paint-spattered jacket, the grocery cart filled with paints and his finishing touches late in the afternoon, but I had to share the scale of his work as well! I took these pictures today at 3:32.

Today was filled with a Farmer's Market morning, and stopping at the funeral home to visit our friend Mike. While there, several people we haven't seen in a long while came by, so we spent 3 hours chatting.

Life was never busy like this back in California! Not in my neighborhood anyway!
Wow, the choices one must make. It will be tough deciding what on Earth to do. Any choice is going to be a winner.

Oh! I love it!

I've been involved with mural art before; and it's not easy to get it right! plus when you're living in a place like where you are, you have to capture the character of the mural exactly right, or it won't look right...

@mozette Thanks, Lynda! I remember seeing your mom's photos of the art you did and even the tiny bits on the clothes pins! You've got talent!

@Weezilou Thanks Louise... actually today, I bought more clothes pegs/pins to paint up as some of my pegs are wearing out and I'd like to make more of them. It's always a lot of fun to get into making those kinds of things as they are tiny and cute as well as useful! :D

Fantastic....and even better that you talked the artist and was able to get another visit with him. How cool! I'm sure you'll take pictures, right?

How wonderful to have such a local talent. And such a good choice for this wall. I guess it speaks well for your community that it hadn't already been covered with graffiti!
