Well, if *this* wasn't an OMG moment!!! We've identified three large raccoon's, and when this little mommy arrived tonight, up popped three babies! I'd spotted just one a few nights ago, so I knew they existed, but here's the back story...
The baby monitor picked up her presence so I went to the door and watched her a bit and returned to the computer. A few minutes later I hear what sounds like a cat...but no, more like purring... I go to the door and here they are...probably under 2#, and they move like a child's wind-up toy, sort of "gliding" around their mother! With all that activity and moderate porch lighting, it's a wonder I was able to get anything, but the moment was priceless!
I know some think they shouldn't be encouraged, but they're such a delight, it's fair trade for making them welcome. I named them..."Mumsie"...and, taking liberty with literary plagiarism, "Flopsy", Mopsy" and "Cottontail"...not rabbits, I know, but three cute names... And, BTW, last year I met someone who had a pet raccoon and she told me it *purred*!
They are very cute Louise. It's a fun shot so fuzzy doesn't matter or count. Love the names you picked out, curious to see if they return to you. I use to call Greg Dr. Doolittle because all the animals he ever meets love him but I think you would give him a run for his money with your little furry family.
What did I tell you Louise in your last raccoon photo, she was going to go and tell all her friends that Louise is back, LOL, This is great. I would be doing the same thing as you.
@dgrynn They did...I put extra lighting out there this evening...still not stellar, but "better"... It's highly unlikely I'm going to get that National Geographic photo on my back porch, but Ken and I are having a great time watching them all! ...and I want SO BADLY to scoop up one of the little ones! OMG they're cute!!! @digitalrn Thanks for that Rick...I know some say to leave the "wild things" alone, but I'm just so fascinated and captivated. Someday you say you & Josie will come for a visit...we'll do a photo shoot at the back door!
@pyrrhula I read this to Ken... Because they can be a bit "destructive, like little monkeys", I said, that Holland has so many beautiful flowers because the raccoons don't dig them up! Ken's reply was, Holland probably had them once, but they were eradicated by angry flower-growers!" (Yes, even though I feed them, they like to dig in flower pots :(
@panthora Oh Osia, I know what an animal lover you are as well...you'd just die to see how cute they are! I dropped the name "Cottontail" and call one "Brave Heart" as he doesn't scare off like the other two... He lingered, eating by himself a long while last night and it was all I could do to keep from trying to catch and hold him! I AM getting better photos, thanks to more lighting and higher ISO...it looks like a studio on the back deck!
