Early in the day a friend called to say some architecture students from McGill University were in town and to go photograph them might be interesting. I wasn't able to do so at that moment, but, when we were leaving to go to dinner with friends, we saw two young ladies in the park across the street doing sketches of the house. Thinking this might be my opportunity to get a photo, we struck up a conversation, and Emily, shared her sketch for me to photograph. When she saw I'd included her in the photo, she asked me to email it to her & we struck up a conversation. She told us of a show the students were having later in the early evening, so at meal's end, we went over to see the work. Sadly, most had left with their art work, but Emily was there with her finished piece. I certainly loved it, and (I hope she didn't feel pressured!) she offered it to me! I'm just delighted! In exchange, I've invited her and some friends to lunch here tomorrow...invited our dinner hosts as well, including their visitor from Alberta, a student in Bio-Medical Engineering. We "old folks" may be in the minority, and I think it will be lovely to bring these bright young students together :)
Whoops...wrong date...this was taken on Sunday the 24th, but it's not overly important... Lunch is planned for Tuesday...we're really looking forward to it!
@aglennc Well, how timely your note is! It's 5, and the girls only left an hour ago! Three came for the lunch, and we invited another couple & their visitor from the University of Alberta. Everyone loved the lunch, the conversation was lively and interesting, the young people all just darling...and I got to give a full house tour afterward (including the attic! We've been invited to another show/critique tonight. We learned there are 70 students here, and a town visit is a part of their curriculum. All four young people seem to have a lot of good possibilities lying ahead. Talent & personality will win out every time!
@Weezilou Sounds like an awesome afternoon. Where are these students from? You said this was part of their curriculum? From what school or.....? (YEAH! Got my prized 18-270mm back from repair in NYC yesterday. I'm back in business just in time for our Labor Day weekend camping near Mammoth with son and daughter in law!)
