Thank you so much for joining me yesterday in taking a contemplative look at the range of choices we might consider at Christmas, perhaps more than any other time of year.
This evening we fed the grandkids early and went to a nearby neighborhood known for years to "go all out" at Christmas. In past years, police directed long lines of traffic leading in and out of the neighborhood. Perhaps homes have turned over and not everyone wants to go to the laborious expense of creating winter scenes, we found it all to be about half of what it once was. That said, those who took the event to heart had put on an amazing show! Ashton's (and perhaps, my) favorite was a towering Christmas tree, shaped only by computerized strings ot lights, Christmas songs and even fountains that synchronized with the music! In a way, it was quite simple in concept, if not execution, and judging by the people gathered to watch, it was quite popular.
Though it had been years since we brought our girls here when they were young, this one house on the corner must still be owned by the same family, and I remembered this tree well! I've never seen one tree so covered with lights (and a few VERY large ornaments!) I spent a half hour at least, photographing it with every filter choice on my camera, and in the end, I felt this captured the brilliance of what were, also, twinkling lights! In lieu of snow on this mild evening, cotton batting covered the ground, and you may even be able to find the white-picket fence that surrounds the yard.
It was elegant and enchanting, and certainly in this case, the home owners have offered their viewers something uniquely beautiful...at any time of year!
Love these whole streets/neighborhoods who go all out with decorations at Christmas. There is a neighborhood in San Diego area that has done it for years. One of the stipulations, we have heard, is that anyone who buys on the street must agree to go along with the decorations idea. Don't know how they can enforce it, but......
@boxplayer@petaqui@aglennc@carys Thank you all! I've been so inspired by the bokeh-beauty I've seen these past several days, I wanted some of my own! It's like looking at the world through rose-colored glasses! Merry Christmas m'friends
All the bokehed lights are just beautiful. What is it about blurry spots of light that intrigue us so, and make us say "Ooo!" Enjoyed reading your description of the evening. You have such an enthusiasm for the world around you.
Welcome to the masses who are producing Christmas bokeh shots! :) This is wonderful! :) So good to know that you can carry on long-standing traditions, like enjoying holiday lights, with your grandchildren!
it is very pretty!! Our neighborhood is well known for all the light displays, too. Traffic is often backed up and there are people riding hayrides looking at the lights...love it :)
@dmrams I love seeing the whole neighborhoods that take park in an event, but I think the pressure would bee too much...especially being away so much as we are now. Passing the few homes with no lights, I wondered if they just left town for the holiday! (The hayrides sound magical in a setting like that!) Merry Christmas to you, Eddie and your darling children, Della!
Thanks for you frank story above and you replay on my card. on e-mail.
