Photo: A 4-year old might have found a better composition...
I was at my computer when I saw Frosty coming down a tree, so I passed the workmen/electricians in the kitchen to go out and feed her. They were surprised to see how tame she is, so we launched into conversation about pets. One had a friend with both a pet skunk and a pet raccoon (!!!) I assured them Frosty would be obliging if they wanted to feed her... I loved that they really enjoyed that! One asked if I'd ever put videos of her on Youtube (yes, of course!), so he took my site name (Weezilou) and said he had a little video camera with him; could he set in in the feeder. Thus went the afternoon! NOT because of all the chatting, but there's still a bit more to do to get the light canisters installed, so he's coming better prepared tomorrow to put the (tiny) video camera on a (tiny) tripod and make some more home movies of Frosty!
Constance suggested Frosty needed a top hat and bow tie when she does her "Dog & Pony Show"... She forgot to mention the dancing cane (and probably a crook to pull this Stage Mother out of the way!)
...this was one of only 22 photos today, and 7 were of Southwest Airlines flying overhead. Need I say I wasn't honing my photographic skills today? HA...as seen above, it's clearly evident! ...so thanks for hanging out with me...you're most obviously a good friend!)
@kwind haha...thanks :) I'd venture "a good friend" always has something nice to say"...so thanks! (I could do with some fog, a *cooperative* 4-yr old and some fab clothing selections...that would go a long way to helping me improve my photos!)
Glad to see you're still the crazy squirrel person :). I have some catching up to do! I poked thru a few of your photos and geez time has flown by! Hope all is well.
@lintbrush OMG! Of ALL my recent pictures, you had to drop in on this! If I hadn't had so few to pick from it wouldn't have made the cut today, but there you have it..."Crazier" than ever, and with a little personal squirrel to call my own! Hey, we're doing great...all in all...if you looked at other recent photos! Our hearts are in Nova Scotia now...what an inspiring place it is to take photos! If there's a trip that far north in your future, let us know! We're a little 365-mini Mecca! Off to see if you've posted any high school graduation photos yet! Going fast enough for you???! ♥ to you and the family!
Been a little busy lately....was trying to catch up to the rest of your album, and what do I see....a big, burly, construction type guy feeding a tiny squirrel!! Yep, this one is priceless... at least there was no butt crack shown!! It is amazing how time goes down a drain when there are contractors working at your house. I hope it all goes smoothly and swiftly. We were trying to finish up our front yard today, and I was giving Roger a hard time for engaging the guy in conversation.....about sports, no less!!
@panthora LOL! Ken was cracking up as I have no trouble at all striking up a conversation with people who enjoy animals! Back in NS, Rick began calling me "Mom", I spent so much time chatting with him! Yes, the project(s) are moving along quite quickly given that we';d given ZERO thought to having anything done around here...until we came home to "problems" that needed attention... I have no trouble at all imagining Ron having an easy conversation with almost anyone! You, either, for that matter, but it's a good idea for one partner to keep the other in line as best possible! Hoping to chat soon... (Life was SUPPOSED to slow to a crawl when we got home!)
it's a squirrel, right? It looks like it might be a nutria or something else but then I saw the back of its tail. I had tame squirrels when I was a girl. You probably know they're very nearsighted, so watch your fingers. I can't wait to see more.
@aikiuser It's pretty special when a "wild" animal trusts your offer of friendship... she's been coming around for a year and had babies last spring.
@creativeaddict Yes, a squirrel...so I looked to see what you could see, and I can see how you might have mistaken her for a nutria! I've seen youtube videos of people who have genuine pet squirrels...that's awesome! I did not know they were nearsighted, but in any case, I take my fingers into consideration! (This is not an animal you'd want to tease!)
@Weezilou you could probably still find it on youtube. There was a squirrel that fell in someone's yard or something. He couldn't return it to the mother so put it in with a mama cat and her kitties.. Squirrel actually learned how to purr.
@creativeaddict Believe it or not, if it wasn't that video you're speaking of, I did hear that a squirrel learned to purr! (We had baby raccoons on our back deck every night last summer...they purred as well!)
Frosty seems to be taking a lesson from her caregiver/friend/Louise - Know No Strangers. She seems to make friends quite easily...a real people squirrel. Love this!
There's nothing like animals to bring people together. Frosty is sooo tiny. I think I must be expecting her to be as large as some of our possums - but she isn't.
What a treat, to have a "wild" animal grant us humans a little interaction. I love to run into people who feel the same way about nature and animals. There's an instant kindred spirit. Your little Frosty is so precious!
@cimes1 Thanks, Carole! I can really take no credit for taming her, though years ago, walking daily in our nearby park, we began to carry peanuts for the squirrels. In a year others were doing so as well, and now, in the park, every squirrel will run right up to you! For the first time in our 40 years here, squirrels are moving out into the neighborhoods, so I have no doubt that that is how we came to get a tame one!
How wonderful to have a wild squirrel like frosty befriend you. You are so lucky. You'd better get the whip behind those builders tomorrow or they'll have to come back next week too! Great shot
@mrssmith203 You've been away when I linked some of them with my photos. Click on "youtube" and just search "Weezilou"...everything there... Enjoy! The grandkids love the ones of Frosty and the one with Charlie, the white horse on the Lunenburg carriage ride (about the 3rd pahe in...)
You always tell such a good story - both with words and with your shots. I love that Frosty is so trusting that he'll accept foods from strangers ;) You must have very nice workmen!
@ethelperry Just a short while ago I was trying to recall who had asked about Frosty's size! I've seen your possums...was even followed by one at a resort in Tassie! They're adorable, but yes, much bigger than Frosty! I just posted a video of our afternoon with her...not too long, but I think you'll get a kick out of it!
