*Frosty* the Squirrel has Sense of Humor

Our friend, Carla Smith @mrssmith has recently rejoined the community and said she'd like to see some "Frosty Videos"... I heard Frosty "chattering away" and went out with my camera, quickly deciding to do a video instead of photos. She carried on for far longer than what I posted...but watch what happens next!

The painters finished the kitchen today and it looks like a new home (to us)! And yes, when the job was finished, they went out back to feed the squirrel. One even took some video for his daughter (age 7),

She's very good at making friends! Won't you see what she was up to today...
I've chuckled all the way through. Frosty is a star. Great fun Louise. Fav

@ceilidh @gilbertwood Thank you both! I was hoping this would put a smile on everyone's faces And Denise, was it you who thought squirrels were the size of your possums? ...or it could have been Ethel or Hazel...

Brilliant Louise!! That has made me laugh!! How wonderful to see Frosty taking the nuts - even coming indoors for them!! I think Frosty loves you and Ken - so kind of you to keep him in nuts!! LOL!! Fav!

This is great - well done!!! Does she swim in the pool, too?!

That belly laugh at the neighbour's dog was just too much!!! I can see from these cute videos just how much a part of your family she is!

@Weezilou No it wasn't me! Must have been Ethel or Hazel or......:)

hmmmm...i don't know. i've spent all of my years in canada trying to avoid frosty's relatives. i have a friend who was being friendly to a squirrel. one day their two-year old child was eating in the porch, a frosty look-alike came and grabbed the child's little bag of nuts, as it was used to having small packets of nuts left for him on the porch. apparently a mini tug of war ensued in which the animal won, child ran after the animal, animal ran back and bit the child. child ended up with big needle as animal had rabies, as, as we were told, almost all squirrels do. so proceed with caution, my friend. :-)

@summerfield Good morning Vikki! So sorry to hear the sad saga of your friend's child...I completely understand your concern. However...A number of years ago when we first began to feed the squirrels in a nearby park, Ken and I were horrified to encounter an exterminator's truck within the mile-square confines. We thought it might be a good time to inquire what was going on, and we were told they were getting rid of the "digging-type ground squirrels". They said they harboured diseases as well as being a nuesence to the grounds and people. We then inquired about the Frosty-types that proliferated the park... We were told that they do not harbour diseases and they leave them alone. Present day, SO MANY people now feed the squirrels in the park, I suspect that over-population of fat-and-happy squirrels has sent the children of said parents into the outlying neighbourhoods. Everyone around here has a squirrel story... I'd never say never, but I've been nipped twice by the park residents and I'm here to write the tale... (In the park, they post signs warning about the presence of coyotes, and requesting that people not feed the ducks, so I'm quite sure that if the squirrels posed a danger, they'd take our tax dollars and get right on it! Thanks for sharing your concern, and I fully understand what prompted it!

@summerfield PS...rereading your note, you mentioned "... child ran after the animal, animal ran back..." I will say that I've watched Frosty "play" with our backyard cats! A cat will chase her, she runs part way up a tree, cat pursues, she turns around and bats the cat...all clearly in fun...it happens frequently, and, while it's more likely the cat would like "a plaything" to chew on, they seem to be having a good time...

@Weezilou - plus we found they just dug all of my tulips and other bulbs! i saw the culprit with my own eyes and when we went out to inspect, found the whole length of the fence were dug and only remnants of the bulbs remain. :-(

@quietpurplehaze It would only be by accident!

Love Frosty!

@teiko She's love you, too! Bring a bag of peanuts!

The beginning of this film is just priceless. Your narrative and Frosty's moves were so entertaining. The kids will love this. You could create a children's photo story book with all these great captures. So enjoyable and I always look forward to your creativity.

@seattle Oh Constance, thank you thank you! Being there in the minute, I was (internally) in hysterics, capturing the scenario and not wanting to disturb the moment! Frosty teases both Molly (the dog next door) and my assortment of free-loading cats...so funny to watch them all! (Thank you for thinking of me as creative...you have NO idea how many years it's taken me to find my muse!)

@jocee What a beautiful instrumental presentation! I read all the comments, and everyone responds to him as a pro...he really is! You have every right to be his proud mom! He's darling to look at as well! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing, and I encourage anyone who sees this here, do go over for a listen! Well worth the time!

@pyrrhula Thank you thank you! Ha ha...there wasn't a lot of pre-planning...didn't even straighten up the mess in the yard! It was, however, all about sharing the antics of our little friend, and I thought it was time to show her in action! Thanks for liking this!

Louise, this is absolutely PRICELESS. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. Definitely a FAV. You guys are awesome to be feeding this little guy all the time. Is it a daily routine?. Do you have others show up, and do you know, for sure, that this little guy is the same "Frosty"?
January 11th, 2015
@aglennc Wow Anita! First, Thanks! Yes, we recognize Frosty as she has "a beauty mark" on her left cheek! We have had another (or others here), but if we approach them, they're skittish. While we were away, Tracy didn't see her much, but we know now that she shows up about 11 and leaves around 4, so those were hours when Tracy likely wasn't here. (She did, all along, leave some food for her). Yes, it's a routine for sure! If we spent all our time feeding her and taking her photo, I wouldn't get anything else done! I would like to get her to climb into my lap, but at the moment, I have neither time nor patience... Oh...She is a SHE...she had babies last year and was obviously nursing them. And boy squirrels are very obviously boys...

I love this! Thank you so much for your shout out to me. I enjoyed watching this, and I can't believe how friendly Frosty is. What a great name! Thanks again for posting this...and thank you especially for all your kind words and support of me and my daily pictures.

**My new album is here http://365project.org/mrssmith203/profile. I filled up three albums at the other one, so I had to create a new account last year.

loved this! I had a neighborhood squirrel that would eat from my hand. He would hang from the middle of the screen door waiting for me. We had named him Moo Shu. Loved that crazy little bugger. Thanks for making this of Frosty! He and the video made me laugh!
January 11th, 2015
I love this! I used to have a squirrel who would come in the apartment to get a peanut. My last squirrel encounter however ended in a tetanus shot so i'm being careful lol
January 11th, 2015
@elatedpixie So glad you dropped by so I might see your work, too! Thanks for liking my little friend...and Ken and I LOVE the name Moo Shu! Aren't squirrels fun?! ...and all the more amazing is that they trust us!
January 11th, 2015
@limitlessky As you saw, Frosty trusts us enough to step inside...but I don't want her to spook and get trapped! She's incredibly gentle if I just hold the peanut for her to take. I've been nipped twice by other squirrels, but it was usually for holding too tight while hoping to get a photo!

I absolutely love your video, Louise. Thank you for letting me know - somehow some of your posts have not come through on my feed - or it may be me? I am in awe of your editing skills. Frosty is an all round delight. and yes, Michael was once bitten boy a possum and tetanus injection ensued - mind you he put his hand into a bird breeding box he had nailed to a tree in our yard - a ring tail possum had taken up residence and grabbed his thumb. He was up a ladder and in intense pain, and had no option but to wait until the possum let go.
January 11th, 2015
This is great! I had no idea we could post videos, and I doubt too many will be able to top this.
January 12th, 2015
Wow Louise that is quite the video, you have many talents!!
I love the star of your video.........Frosty, I guess he might be famous one day! It was so nice to see Ken sharing, my husband does the same One for the squirrel, two for himself!!
January 14th, 2015
I noticed you let Frosty in your patio doors, we don't go that far and keep the screen always closed to keep them out however, that does not deter the little guy. He climbs our roof and comes down our chimney into our fireplace.my husband then has to Corel the cat and then try to capture the squirrel, impossible!!! so we then open the screen door to the patio and after watching him run across my husband's paintings, yes he does climb the walls, he then ushered him out the open screen door. Fortunately this has only happened twice, so we don't encourage him to come into the house.
