One Reason I Run Short on Time... I'm easily distractible... I had a photo to which I wanted to add a small Picmonkey edit ... Went to the site and found a tutorial about building "this sort of thing" (above). I'm never much for reading directions, so I forgot about the edit & went to my art room to find a box of old photos (ebay purchases for collage projects). Decided that in keeping with this project, I'd photograph them ... but it's hard to stop. After going through a half box I headed down to sort through. There is absolutely nothing special about any one of these items ... I was creating an arrangement. Brought in little roses to photograph, and picked up the first pin (ebay) and buttons (ebay) that I thought might fill that space. At that point I launched all the texture "stuff" I've been playing with and had a wonderful afternoon processing it all.
Maybe I'll make Mother's Day cards for both our daughters...too bad they don't play tennis!
Louise, you make me laugh.....getting from Point A to Point B is never easy, is it?! Not with that many other detours and zig zags along the way, so many distractions and fun places to meander through... :-)))) See, if I ever bought stuff from ebay to use in the future I would never find them....as it is I hold on to too many things that may just be used for a project in some distant or near future! And, this turned out beautiful.....such a vintage feel to it!
@lindasees Thanks, Linda. I have friends who've told me they'd never have the patience to do some of the detail I put into projects, but to me, that's a form of relaxation. Funny how different brains can be!
@panthora Ha! I knew YOU would understand! Yes, I still have boxes of things I bought when "planning" to use them for projects...and see, I may yet! Ken wants to clear out. Me, I *might* need it and use it! Artistic brain vs analytical engineering brain! (If I ever get my 1000s of old photos photographed, I can sell them back on ebay! Actually, my Ashley snags an album or two most every visit and is amassing her fortune!) (PS...I am VERY organized! I can lay a hand almost anything in the stockpile! Ken's always surprised!)
This is absolutely charming, Louise. I love this wonderful vintage look. I know exactly how your brain was working...when I start on a project, the clock has no meaning. My only reference to time and place is what's in front of me.
This looks like it could be a card offering in an upscale gift shop. Beautifully done!
@peggysirk Wow, Peggy, Thank you for that uplifting affirmation to start my morning! Knowing that you understand exactly the zone I was in, it won't surprise you that I was dreaming about collaging and woke at least an hour earlier than usual, ready to go back to it! With me, "easily distracted" sometimes lasts awhile! (I need a photo of some old fountain pens...will have to dig deeper in my stash , but I know you have some :)
I love this Louise, the end product and process in between. I have boxes of art supplies a little less since the move but still enough. Michael supports me in my artistic endeavours because he has some of his own too. I even used to sell collage packs on eBay for collage and mixed media artists to use. And I would buy things from eBay to use myself as well.
This is wonderful Louise. I really like the vintage look. I have never used eBay but with my sewing I have buttons and bows etc. And can spend ages trying to get the right bit
@dailypix Well Susan, we find more in common every day, don't we?! Yes, I did a turn around/sell on ebay, too, when I had too much of something. It was a pretty serious addiction for awhile...and even in the last few minutes, as I was photographing some items for another collage, I was lamenting the photo album of pictures from early Honolulu that "I forgot to bid on" and it went for only $100. Isn't that pathetic that I can't let it go?! Nowadays, I wouldn't even dare take a look there!
@kelly2 Oh aren't we all something! I just replied to Susan, and now I see you have that "collection" that can be both soothing and all consuming! I just spent the last hour in my art room and found so many wonderful items I haven't looked at in years! I'm SO glad I haven't gotten rid of any of it for lack of using it all ;-)
Gosh Louise, that just brings tears to my one good eye. Just kidding. I LOVE this collage! You give me inspiration to try to make one for my Mom for Mother's Day. Fav for your lovely creation!
@joysfocus haha! You are so adorably quirky! You're welcome to use my cut-outs of the pin and the roses if you'd like... And I'd be MORE THAN happy to talk you through it! Thanks heaps...you enjoy "the process" as I do and I suspect you'd also get hooked making these! Let me know...it's in your ball park...
@Weezilou isn't that right, oh and I feel the disappointment over the Honolulu pictures you missed biding on. Pathetic or not I totally get it am already hoping you spot other ones that might be available.
@dailypix Thanks for the kind thoughts and words, Susan. Ken and I spent about 6 hours today going through boxes of items I'd stored for several years and I found two boxes full of collage supplies, though some would have to be used with paper. It was such fun to go through it all, and I recognized that Ken was VERY patient and didn't rush me, even as I thumbed through some old magazines! He understands how much I love all those "old things"!
oh, Weezi...I'm in so much trouble now! I NEVER thought of looking on ebay for collage supplies. *head-desk* I prolly should've lived much longer without this knowledge.
I've been borrowing things from friends for still-life shots so I can give it all back and not amass mountains of "stuff." I'm thinking reading some of your descriptions is not the best for my current minimalist approach.
*thinking* although...hhhmmmm...I did just clear out that one room to make a studio. OH NO! See??? This could be REAL trouble! ;)
@voiceprintz RETURN TO SEE HEATHER! She has as much or more than I do, and she purloins my things when she visits, so it's only right I send you over to her! AND you two could make some amazing creations as she's an awesome mixed media artist! I'll go find a link to her site so you can see what she does... I do believe you'll thank me! (Back in a minute!)
These are the two links at the end of her email, but she has another that Tina once set up for her, and that's my favorite. I loe her journaling that is about 4/5ths the way down the page of the top link. Again, get in touch!
Oh...I forgot to say that my "intended art room that once was" is now a loosely used term! It does, however harbor a hefty quantity of goodies that is like opening a surprise ball when I start digging! Send me an address if you don't mind... I have more than enough to share and would love to do so. Won't be heaps, but a variety. It'll be up to you to fill in the blanks... (And whatever you do, DO NOT EVER step into Foursided about 3 doors down from Heather's store! Think: Pandora's Box!)
And heed my warning about ebay... Truly, it was an addiction...there are twenty lifetimes of goodies available, and you can't think of an item that won't be available! Now...try to stop your head from spinning and get some rest! (If you're like me, when you finally sleep, you're still collaging and creating until sunrise!)
