Heeresmusikkorps : The German Army Band from Ulm, Germany
This morning I arose thinking I could get things done around the house today when two friends called before 10 to tell me the German band was performing in front of St John's church at noon. I never miss that as it a wonderful performance from the Tattoo in Halifax. Every year an anonymous doner pays for them to come to Lunenburg, a town with deep German roots. This year, attending with them was the German Bicycle Team. (more about them in an additional photo today).
All but two of my photos were of the musicians and the details of their instruments. But it was this church I wanted to include, the 2nd oldest in Canada. It rose from the ashes when it was burned in Oct 2001. Money came from donations across Canada to rebuild it in its original style, and my photos from before and after are virtually identical. It's now more revered than ever, and an iconic Lunenburg landmark.
This is so wild!! I guess now that you mentioned it, it makes sense that a town by the name of Lunenberg would have German roots, but it is so wild to see a German band and bicycle performers traveling all the way out there! Loving your pictures.....but, I have not seen Fred yet!!
Love this shot. The church is impressive with the white brickwork and the touches of black. The band sounded good,I hope. It's nice to have these worldwide connections
@cmewander We leave Orange Cty and come to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for abut 5-6 months each year. It's a VERY picturesque town and I enjoy posting photos from here. Stay tuned! and Thanks for coming by!
