When I mentioned sights and sounds we never hear in our California neighbourhood, "the moaning foghorns" would be among those sounds. As we were heading to the next biggest town for "provisions", I suggested we stop along the harbour for a photo. Richard @chard will likely pop in to recall the lesson I once gave about "Lunenburg Red", a paint colour carried by Benjamin Moore. In heavy fog, you can see what colour stands out for ships to see!
After taking this photo, I only had to turn around and get my picture of the two osprey waiting for mom to bring them breakfast!
(and it wasn't long until the sun came out, interrupted only by a brief sprinkle in the late afternoon.)
@allie912 Absolutely! In my spare time...if I'm laid up again! hahaha! (Actually used to do all sorts of needlework... I now find a photo is *so much faster*!)
Wow so beautiful! Reminds me of New England. So totally different from the "left coast". And fav!
Love all of your photos from Nova Scotia. What a different world from crazy San Diego. And Orange County for that matter.
@timandelke Thank you Elke! I see you're on line right now, as am I before heading to market! Perhaps you need some of these new surroundings, too! And do you remember Sue Stephenson @swazette? She and her partner are the ones who'll be here this afternoon! Such fun to have these 2010 friendships from "back when"!
@Weezilou never had the pleasure of meeting Sue. It's great that you'll have a chance to meet up and visit. I'm procrastinating this morning - have to get up the nerve to go and get my hair cut.
@timandelke Wishing you a "Happy Haircut"! I know the trepidation! However, didn't have time for one before leaving, got here and found my gal is on vacation until the 14th! What I'd have given to have taken your appointment! Enjoy!
@dailypix@danette@joansmor@joysfocus Thank you all for the faves! I love the waterfront here, and you're likely to see it again a few times in whatever the weather has to offer! (I hear the heavy snow is spectacular, but I'll wait for someone else to call that in!)
@golftragic@allie912@digitalrn@taffy@lisamccloskey@pamknowler@stray_shooter@gilbertwood@timandelke (and the 365 Magic Monkeys ; ) Thank you all for liking this scenic town! @joysfocus Joy wrote that it reminded her of New England, and, in fact, many movies and television shows are filmed here for just that reason! I missed seeing it, but "Lizzie Borden" was filmed here last summer, and a feature film called "The Healer" will start filming here on the 15th. I love that we get notices in the mailbox to tell us where they'll be : )
do you know how wonderful this is? it gives me that "time travel" sensation. i could see ladies in colourful silk damask with their little parasols and gentlemen in tails holding their elbows so delicately, and carriages pulled by handsome horses. [sigh!] is it september yet? and whoa! that reminds me i haven't finished my email to you! fabulous shot, my friend.
@summerfield Why thank you darlin! I think that image of silk and tails might be more "Halifax: Back in the Day" than Lunenburg every thought it could be! That said, I have seen a few corseted dresses from the late 1800's in a couple of museums up here... Let's talk about your arrival date... we'll be making a California trip about the 2nd week in Sept, but will, of course, return after visiting the daughters and grandkids. We'll chat. Other than that, we seem to be free for first takers!
A beautiful fav. view and capture of lovely foggy Lunenburg.
Thank you for all the nice comments and lines you wrote me. Next week will be less busy so I`ll make it equal .
I LOVE fog!! I love to walk in the fog (free moisturizer) and fog makes everything look a bit different, like your red paint!! Love this shot and glad you are doing some better!! Thanks for the prayers, they are always needed for everything and anything!! Hugs!! Also a big FAV!
Please don't have any of this fog when my son sails down this part of the coast. They are still enjoying Newfoundland for a few more days. This is a fantastic shot, didn't know about the red paint story. fav
