Our neighbor, Al, is a jazz musician who also used to play in a Big Band...on New Year's Eve in year's past. Tonight he asked John, our SIL, a music director at a private school up the coast, to jam with him, and I snapped this as the boys sat, fascinated. Soon Al's wife, a pianist, and a visiting friend, a singer, joined us, and even the boys picked up some instruments they received for Christmas and the joint began to rock! OK, there were some (LOTS!) of discordant moments, but Dylan & Ashton were in it for the evening, never missing a beat (often one of their own choosing!) They're likely to be musical as they grow up in such a family, so it was wonderful of everyone to suffer the pleasure they found in it!
When the boys turned in for the night , the adults retired to the living room where we sat by the fireside drinking champagne and eating meringues. It seemed to have been a perfect fit for everyone there, and as for me, I retired my dancing shoes long ago. The evening suited me just perfectly!
@cruiser I have to add to my last note on the other photo that yes, "we've slotted back", but this is something of a first that we're enjoying a musical evening with friends, so much like is almost commonplace in Lunenburg! It was terrific fun!
@ceilidh It wasn't a New Year's Eve I'd planned nor would I have predicted it, but I kept saying I couldn't think of anything nicer!
@stray_shooter Daughter, Ashley, played rhythm on the bottom of a metal trash basket (did I mention this was impromptu?!) I *tried* to sing "As Time Goes By" and my voice didn't sound all that bad when I played back, but I can't hold a melody when Al goes off on a jazz rift close! We'll do this again sometime. Perhaps you should come join us! YOU bring the washboard...and some drumsticks! I know you're an undiscovered star...you practically told me so!
