Before the California Wildfires: Lake Casitas

I hope to post more Nova Scotia photos in the days ahead, but many have asked about our family and the fire region. Over the last two days I've gone through the many (many!) photos I've taken over the last 4+ years that document most of the region that's now on fire. Since I have those gathered, I may post some to keep this calendar going and relive some memories.

This lake is in the Los Padres National Forest referred to as The Back Country. Early on after the fire moved north from Ventura this was in the path. Ashley and the family have camped here at Lake Casitas several times. What a loss it's all been...on so many levels... It's nearly impossible for firemen to access this area, and it's being allowed to burn. Everyone's heartbroken about the size and scale of the fire. Please keep them in your prayers.

To see this beautiful landscape and to know it has been devasted by fire is heartbreaking Louise! I think of all the wildlife caught up in this event and it just makes me cry! All my prayers for all the people who have been affected and have lost everything! I am so happy your family are safe now at your house. I hope they don’t loose their home! Big hug xx

It's devastating to see what fire can do. How wonderful, though, to have your photos to look back on. It will regrow, but it takes a long time, unfortunately. So sad.

@pamknowler I've been thinking about the wildlife too - there was a wonderful little video of a motorist who stopped to save a wild rabbit from the flames, on the BBC. Time will heal the greenery I guess but so sad. Thanks for posting Louise.

I hadn't heard there were extensive fires here. So sorry for the loss for both the vista and the people affected by it. Glad you and yours are safe though.

I'm so glad to look back at your images and read that your family are all well and set-up at your place. And I'm so surprised you are staying so late this year. Wow, you might get some 'real' snow before you head back! :)

@kwind @pamknowler @jamibann @Cherrill @joansmor @louannwarren @casablanca @novab Sending great appreciation for your words and good thoughts; it's nice to feel surrounded by friends when my thoughts are in California with this coastal area I know so well. I know what a busy time this is for everyone, so even more appreciation for stopping by! Nova, still awaiting that snow I hear about... Will take a minute to post another coastal photo, but no need to comment; you've done so much for me already! ♥

Great serene scene. So sad to think it is being devastated by bush fires. Hope everyone stays safe.

The fires happening are so heartbreaking, so sorry to hear about the damage. I'm actually starting to feel its effects in the air even though it's practically invisible in the air in my area. Hope everyone your way is okay

@gilbertwood Thank you for the good thoughts. Just read on the photos from Phylm 90m mi north, and I see Chris there who lives 90 min drive south of the fires. They've done a number on everyone!

@cjphoto How can it not be filtering through all the air in the region! Do what you can to protect your lungs! Thanks for entertaining us with your delightfully happy photos!
