Not Orange Oranges ... by Weezilou

Not Orange Oranges ...

For the first time, my Blood-Orange tree has produced a respectable crop and are they ever delicious! I juiced the three of these and had a wonderful glass of "ruby red" orange juice. The flavor is decidedly different from the Navel and Valencia oranges, though each is good in its own right.

Coming home to fresh fruit to pick when we want it is my favorite part about returning to California for the winter! I think the oranges on the tree will continue to get darker and sweeter if I don't pick them all too soon!
These look delicious, and how wonderful to pick them from your own tree!

I love the idea of picking your own oranges, juicing them and then drinking the tasty juice! How wonderful! They also make a lovely colourful image! Mouthwatering! Fav!

They look delicious. We hardly ever see blood oranges here and when we do find some they are rather expensive.

We love blood oranges, and pay dearly at the grocery for them. Mimosas prepared with blood orange juice are divine and so pretty too.

what??? your own tree??? That's the exotic nature of California (which I think is truly a separate country of its own)

Good time of year to make marmalade!
January 7th, 2018
@will_wooderson Indeed! We have blood oranges, Valencias and Navel oranges as well! Most years, though I make lemon marmalade! With the grapefruit, a "Greyhound" with vodka is the best use we've found for them!!! ; )

Nicely done Louise! Food is especially hard to capture.....sometimes because we eat it!

@stray_shooter Teaches me patience and not to go for the instant gratification! Thanks!

Fabulous Louise! They sound delicious. I love Meyer lemons. And my parents would order ruby red grapefruit every Christmas from Texas. When I was in Florida last year, I drank fresh orange juice every morning! All delicious!

@gardenfolk No time like the present to plant some trees in your yard! We put in almost all fruit and citrus trees 40 years ago...only one has died of old age. We LOVE this time of year with fresh fruit daily! (As I child we got ruby red grapefruit from friends of my parents every Christmas! Wonderful memory!)
