After dinner and dropping the family back at our cabin, Ken and I went to photograph the sunset. With no clouds, the setting wasn't as pretty as it had been in the morning, so we set off down the road for a different location. And then we saw a car stopped on the road ... In this provincial-park setting, that signals a fox sighting...and there were TWO! After our first visit in 2011 we'd learned they were quite used to people, so I hopped out *hoping to get* a nice close-up. I'm here to tell you God answers prayers!!! I knew one was coming right up to me, and I couldn't look away from my eyepiece to see how close! I kept shooting, and when I enlarged this RAW image, I can be seen clearly in his eyes! I thought I was happy with that chipmunk photo!!! This was more than I ever dreamed of hoping for!
...and if that wasn't enough, I have many more nice ones (and then I thought to shoot some video)! We got the sunset, and on the way back, we encountered four together!!! Oh what a night!!! (I may not come up for air for weeks!!!)
So beautiful, Louise! An incredible close up too! You have a way with wildlife that's for sure. Can you imagine if you went to Africa?!? You would have a lion curled up in your lap! Fav!
@koalagardens Actually, he did! This is full frame/no cropping! @sunshinepix It WAS this photographers dream photo! I was overwhelmed with delight! Thanks! @shepherdmanswife doesn't happen "often"! Thanks so much! @jamibann I suppose the excitement comes across, While it would seem I should have said "my feet won't touch the ground for a month", I also meant that I've got so many pictures to go through from this past month, I won't come up for air, either! @pyrrhula Oh they really are beautiful, aren't they?! None that I've ever seen in zoos are as pretty as these out in the *wild* (and they aren't all that wild, are they?!) @merrelyn@kchuk@Dawn Oh thank you ladies for sharing in my excitement!!! @sailingmusic How envious I am of you that you were in PEI for so long! It's so different from Nova Scotia, and only a short distance away! @elkereturns Haha... I didn't even have anything to feed him, though he does look hopeful, doesn't he? @joannakate Oh those faces give me happy heartaches, too! @joansmor If they were rabid, you KNOW they'd put a quarantine on everyone going into the park! They do ask people not to feed them, but two children from Quebec were on the ground feeding them bread! @4rky@inthecloud5@mastermek@ulla Thank you all so much for giving me this moment of excitement and sharing it with me! @gardenfolk I could hardly wait to share this with you... and I didn't even go on safari! https://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-01-22@ludwigsdiana "Blessed" describes the moment perfectly! I was overjoyed! @boxplayer@allie912 We came upon 4, and later, down the road, a pair of them... They were all gorgeous! @golftragic Thanks for liking the photo, Marnie! It often happens that we might not like the subject, but admire the photography! I appreciate and understand your comment! @madeinnl@amyk@ethelperry@seattlite Thank you all for complimenting that handsome fox! @pamknowler It seems well-known that the foxes, like their close relatives, dogs, have learned to equate the tourists with a hand-out! They don't want to be touched, but they're less skittish than the feral cat that's lived in our back yard for years! (She still holds a grudge about being neutered!) @louannwarren@paintdipper Thank you both so much! My grandson saw this and wants to take him home! @lynnz@leananiemand Wow, Thank You both! The time and the place came together perfectly!
this is absolutely wonderful Louise - I think foxes are gorgeous - unfortunately here they are an introduced species and are one of the reasons some of our small natives are becoming vulnerable
Glad we can agree to differ Louise. I've had to pick up the remains of too many chooks, turkies and lambs killed by foxes to even consider them as cute. In fact they're considered vermin here and there's a bounty on them. Another lovely feral animal brought here by English settlers. They kill for fun, not for food.
@annied I would agree that moving animals to new lands has more-often-than-not upset the balance of nature! Do you suppose *at last* people are slowly learning? Thanks for the compliment! @pplutz@atchoo Thank you so much, ladies! I'm delighted I could share this with so many this weekend! @novab It certainly WAS a moment! I think it's my favourite thing about going to PEI! @golftragic I'd already left the note for Annie when I see you two are in full agreement and I completely understand! I've recently learned that their closest relatives are dogs, but kill an animals because they were "playing with it" is often more cat-like...and you know I love my cats, but I understand! (If you could get them to focus on the too-many rabbits that were also introduced!)
@skipt07 Thank you Skip! I loved your pales leaves that were on the list as well! I thought it was a lovely group of photos and nice to be included in the lot!
:)
