Summer has turned into Autumn and we're relishing the changes we don't readily see in Southern California! I've spent the past week taking the 43 Lightroom Virtual Summit classes so I can better utilize the tools available to me. It's kept me from applying what I'm currently learning but giving me the desire to jump in and begin! I could even gather older photos and start processing all over with new knowledge! (Has anyone else here taken these courses organized by Dave Cross? I recall Sally Ings has in the past.)
All the while I've been "in class", we've had a rainy week, and I haven't missed going out for photos. I can still gather from that remarkable day spent at Ross Farm to journal the photo memories there.
Sincerely, thank you for your lovely comments, and I try to keep up in reciprocating as best I can. In my time away, I grow more enthusiastic to return, share and participate with this caring community!
What a lovely photo. I too am craving fall colors. I was at Balboa park yesterday and managed to see maybe a dozen leaves that are turning ... pining for a trip to Utah
@lindasees It's nice to know that others from our group were there! I didn't expect to get so much information regarding LR as I more typically use PS. Now it's about to be a tossup...but I have always had my own filing system, so nothing to redo there...whew!
@Weezilou was also at the LR summit. So much to learn, and unfortunately we had beautiful sunny fall days, so staying in the house was not always possible. Learning the masking concept is tough. I'm impressed that you are a PS user more than a LR user. I am so trying to learn PS but it is so intimidating. Any suggestions welcomed. I guess you are back in California now as our Canadian cold starts to move in. We are heading to Florida next week for a month to escape the ugly month of November.
@dora I love learning who our classmates are! 1...We plan to leave here on Nov 12 and drive to our daughter's in MA. We'll fly home from there Dec 3...not moving all that fast! I'm a PS user because Ken had bought PS for his employees when it came out in the late 90s; some didn't go to the classes, so I went! I was hooked. I learned A LOT by trial and error and learning I couldn't break anything! I cringe now to think of the hours I spent doing something that, when I learned, I could do in a flash! I've taken all (5?) Summits, and have gotten more from PS because I already understand it better. The instructors just have SO MANY tricks and projects to try, and doing those adds to capability... That said, I love the new features in LR, and on all the images I took in "the dappled glen", I'm doing a lot of masking in LR. One of the instructors was popping them in many places, and I loved the small "spotlight" with a lot of feathering. The advice I follow is to continue to take classes, watch videos from teachers you like (Jesus Ramirez, Matt, Kristina and Colin Smith who runs Photoshop Cafe on Thursdays are some of mine,) I also look for tips on Pinterest and have files for LtRm, PS and Photography. Last evening's reading material was "the many things I can try with an ND filter!" (I bought it a year ago and only put it on my camera about a month ago! Now I have many ideas for using it again!) From a distance, that's about the best I can do to help you, Dora! You could never run out of video tutorials...As I watch, I pause video, slip to PS and try the step...back to video and repeat until you've accomplished it! You'll have no time to be bored! Have a lovely and safe trip to FL...perhaps enjoy another Thanksgiving there? I'm delighted you're in touch... I'm about to be shocked when I hit "post" and see what a gabby gal I am!
I thought our cold would scare you off. I bet it is tough to leave there. It must be amazing in the fall. Have never been to Lunenburg but from the photos it looks like a photographers dream. Have a safe drive to MA and enjoy your thanksgiving with your daughter. I will check out some of your suggestions and will be spending some warm hours learning PS and LR in Florida. You are not a gabby gal in my eyes. Love your messages.
I feel like I hit the jackpot from your recommendations. I spent the rest of the evening watching videos from Photoshop Cafe and Colin Smith. He covers everything and more. Amazing. Thanks again Louise
@dora You've made my heart happy, Dora! I love being able to assist someone from my files of information... it's always a pay-it-forward as I've been helped so many times also! Now you have a lot to help you as you set out on your "tropical" holiday! We love the cooler weather as I have a wardrobe of sweaters to wear that never see the light of day in California!!! Please continue to keep in touch if you need more assistance; I'm happy to help in any way I can!
