Nova Scotia South Shore Multicultural Festival

Please tell me you like this ;D
I spent all day until 3 AM putting it together...
I think I've sold my soul to "365"!

Actually, I think I covered well the two hours we were there...and if you're a dog-lover, you might like the conclusion♥

(sorry for the poor cover image on Youtube...they give you 3 choices, and unfortunately this, the best representative one, was in the midst of transition when it was thrown into the list...)
Louise, thank you for sharing your festival - I feel like I was there :) Delightful! Well done, loved the music and of course, the doggies. What fun!!

Fun shot

I loved that, Louise! I felt like I was right there with you. ;). You should send this to the organizers - it's a great collection. What program did you use to create the slideshow?
August 19th, 2014
@kass Thanks, Kass! I used Movie Maker that came with Windows 8. First ripped the video for the sound track...then began again with stills and clips. Ellen, the lady with the smudge pot is a friend of my friend Gill (from So Africa...more multiculturalism!) so we'll get this to the organization...I did want to share it.

Louise, it was such a pleasure to share this with you. I felt very much part of a vibrant, inclusive community. The quotes at the beginning reminded me of a book I loved to teach. It was called Brother Eagle, Sister Sky:A Message from Chief Seattle by Susan Jeffers. Now I'm awash with nostalgia! Fav

@Weezilou Great view of the festival through your lens. I love these communitiy events as they bring people together to celebrate life and diversity. You really captured the spirit of this event. The dogs are a fun ending!

Thanks for sharing - it was super! Well done.
August 19th, 2014
Very nicely put together, Louise. You definitely captured a wide variety of participants, onlookers (including the pooches) and performances.
August 19th, 2014
@teiko @ceilidh @seattle @lynnilou @lyndemc Thank you all so much for taking the time to have a look...truly, I understand that's asking a lot when we have so little time to pass through all the offerings on this site. I hope you indeed, found it worth your time & thank you for the faves as well!
August 19th, 2014
Watched it all, would have loved to have been there and experience it all. Great with the music and photo slides, nice combination!
August 19th, 2014
@overalvandaan Thank you for the kind words, Saxa... Being within a multicultural community here on 365, I thought it would be fun to share the experience...so local, South Shore flavor!
August 19th, 2014
Nice work, Louise. You hit all the high points!
August 19th, 2014
@allie912 Thank you Allie...I was hoping I might have made it shorter, but I couldn't cut any deeper than I did...and the hour was late...so I went with it! I appreciate you taking the time...

Great work Louise. Really shows the diversity of the day. You captured many people happily enjoying the day and involved in all the activities. My favorite sequence was the drumming and as no surprise to you the puppy multiculturalism.
August 19th, 2014
Fabulous, Louise. I loved it. You've done a really good job putting it together.

Oh and I forgot to mention Michael was impressed too as he knows the lengthy time it takes to edit video. He used to do that at a TV station a few years ago but does it freelance now.
August 19th, 2014
@dailypix Wow Susan...tell Michael I said "Thanks"! Any suggestions for putting a better image on the face of this? I could use the drumming one, but it was the Mikmaq who arranged for this...And I'm delighted you liked the drumming! I cut into it severely. That's what my daughter and son in law do...He is a teacher and percussionist and she performs in some of his shows...two lanky blonde kids!
August 19th, 2014
@kwiksilver Thanks Gillian! It was my friend, Gill, from So Africa, with whom we went to this! I love being able to share this aspect of life in Nova Scotia with world-wide friends!
August 19th, 2014
@Weezilou I love the name connection ;)
August 19th, 2014
@kwiksilver I thought you might...she was "the first Gill" I ever knew :) http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2012-07-27 That's her, back, left, and she was in my video, but from the side. I'm lucky to call her my friend!

Just watched this while having breakfast...and it's a wonderful way to start my day. Thanks for sharing and it's wonderful to see all cultures working in harmony. Thankyou :)

We'll done Louise! What a terrific collection of shots a video, not easy to compact 2 hours down to a few minutes but it feels like you've perfectly done so.
August 19th, 2014
You know, it's not just this video. You do a fantastic job of sharing your life and your world through your project. And, I have to say, I do love this video. I feel as if I have experienced something too, through your eyes. It's very neat. I hope you do more of these if given another chance at it down the road. Sometimes, one photo a day just isn't enough to tell the whole story! This does.
August 20th, 2014
@adambralston Adam...come closer...I would love to hug you! That compliment made every moment I spent assembling this worth a missed night's sleep! And a secret I haven't shared...you and the folks who liked this today gave me the best birthday present I could have asked for!| I feel I know my friends here, and You're a group with whom I wanted to share this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
August 20th, 2014
That was such a nice representation of the big event. You covered it all quite well Louise, and as always you know how to spice it up a notch, the dogs at the end, perfectly brings it to a close.
August 20th, 2014
Just marvelous! You made my day - I feel as though I was actually there. I like the principle of the smoking ceremony. The dogs are priceless. I once started a project of photographing dogs at a market. You can almost hear them talking, "How long does this have to take"? "Can't we go now", "just choose the cup cakes, sand let's get out of here".......I think I faved this on my iPad at breakfast time :)
Oooh, Happy Birthday, and I hope you weren't too tired to enjoy it. I had one on 10th Aug, and kept very quiet about it.

@Weezilou So cool that your daughter performs in some of your son-in-law's shows, and that they can be involved together. Michael just said if you want a dramatic effect open with the drumming, but since its after the editing is completed just leave it. :)
August 20th, 2014
@dailypix I bow to Michael's expertise in the field... I did clip the Mikmaq chanting with the drumming and put it first (though it followed the chant done by the woman in white...) As I felt it was hosted by the Mikmaq, I wanted it to showcase that event first...and I put the entertainment in order as it appeared. If you see that program at the outset, there was A LOT I had to forgo... As for Ashley & John performing, this was an assembly program John put together when they had some visiting drummers in the area. The last man in white to enter is the French teacher from Senegal. The man with the small "talking drum" under his arm is from Africa & is well known in his field...I got to meet & record him when we visited later... Thought you'd be interested in a bit of this... http://vimeo.com/79530361 (At the opening...you probably guessed...that's John & Ashley on the left...)
August 20th, 2014
@Weezilou Thanks for sharing that's very cool. So neat to see them perform. I was very interested to listen.
August 20th, 2014
Dear hazel. I nearly missed this and that would be a very big pity. As I often watch the pic.`s on 365 between two of mine I see this one.
You made a great beautiful film impression of the festival. A good choose of the different events/performs and a nice choose of music.
You`ve learn quickly or are talented. you to choose.
August 21st, 2014
@pyrrhula ***You`ve learn quickly or are talented. you to choose.***

Actually, I learn *slowly*, but I practice and try to learn from my mistakes...like when I lose everything because I forgot to save!... I persist, and I'm only happy when I can make something to share that my friends can enjoy...so "Thank You"!
August 21st, 2014
@Weezilou You make me think of my dear deceased brother . We share the same hobby. (making steam engine models.) He always say: if you make something there are two ends up. It is good or it is no good. And, when it`s no good you`ve to make an other one.
August 22nd, 2014
That was absolutely delightful.....I felt like I was there, and I wish I truly were because I really enjoy such multicultural festivals. You did a great job with the slideshow/movie.....that is a task I have yet dared to undertake. I will put it on my long list of things to do, and hope that it is an easier task with Windows 8! Thank you for sharing another slice of your life from Nova Scotia. :-)))
