For years I've been buying the hand knits in Nova Scotia as they're cozy warm and a reasonable price. It's the way women occupy the dark, cold winters in this part of the world!
This eye-catching display hung from the ceiling in a gift shop in a small town off the beaten path. The shelves were full of knit goods as well!
I read in a Newfie dictionary today that, in the local colloquialism. the short socks are called "Vamps" .
@ethelperry I don't think the days of hand knits ever left this area! The ladies are very proficient! Understandably the prices were a bit high in gift shops we went to, but as craft shows and the fall boutique shows spring up, items such as sweaters for children run about $20-$30 and socks such as the long ones are around $20. I also love the scarves, and they're quite reasonable. Win-Win for everyone I think! Thanks, Ethel!
@danette haha...yes, I'm happiest in bare feet and flip flops, too! However on a cold day or night, woolen socks are in high demand!
I love this Louise! I keep seeing these wonderful knitted socks and gloves and am blown away by the talents of these women! I expect I will be going home with a pair! Lol! Fav!
