This 32 foot, 9,000 pound sculpture greets all those arriving and leaving Denver International Airport. Strangely enough, it is not the cobalt blue or aggressive stance of Denver's Devil Horse that hold one's attention so much as its fiery red eyes that stare relentlessly across the open prairie. Commissioned by the Denver art panel, it was installed in 2008, two years after the death of its sculpture, Luis Jimenez, who was killed when a piece of the Mustang fell on him, severing an artery in his leg.
The red caught my eye too. An amazing piece of sculpture with an interesting story behind it. You have managed to convey the imposing size of this piece too.
@adayinmallacoota Thank you. There is nowhere to stop and actually view the sculpture, but, because we missed the parking lane in the terminal we had to leave and re-enter. When I asked my husband to slow down so I could get a photo, he pulled off onto the shoulder and told me to jump out. I jogged over and quickly took some pictures, wondering if airport security would come chase me off. It is much more impressive when you can stop and view it rather than just see it when driving by.
