It was a beautiful afternoon, so I rousted myself about to visit the Lan Su Chinese Garden. Strolling under the covered walkway I was suddenly struck on top of my head. It was a fleeting blow, and my assailant was nowhere to be seen when I turned. I rather quickly left the area and wandered over to enjoy the sweet scent of the blooming trees in a side garden. As I stood to leave I was once again hit, only this time I caught sight of my assailant as he landed in the nearby tree. See him there? Hiding behind the leaf? He wouldn't come out and let me get a proper picture, so I turned to leave and once again he made a last grab at the treasure he was seeking, a shiny comb in my hair. He missed, briefly landed on a rock, gave me a disgusted look, and flew off before I could get a good mug shot of the assailant. Darn ... would really have liked to get a better picture of this Western Scrub Jay.
