Visited my son's yard this evening. For living only a mile away, he has such a different variety of birds. I haven't seen one of these woodpeckers for years. He said he has them every year. I guess he thought they were common ... but not to me!
I've had Downy Woodpeckers and Red-Bellied Woodpeckers visit my yard, and I had a Pilieated Woodpecker swoop in front of my car once, but I've never seen this particular variety before. Lovely capture!
